MLB Baseball Betting - Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs

No, Alfonso Soriano didn’t hit a lead-off homer for the third game in a row, but yesterday afternoon’s sports betting results were quite the same as the Cubs upended the San Diego Padres by a 4-0 final count to take three of four in the series. Chicago continues to be a tremendous sports wager at home as the win was their 17th in 24 tries this season and allowed them to tie the Arizona Diamondbacks for the best home record in all of baseball. Cubs starter, Ryan Dempster, threw an absolute gem almost going the distance before being yanked with one out in the ninth in favor of closer Kerry Wood who nailed down his eighth save of the season. They’ll look to keep the good times rolling in this afternoon’s online betting affair against the surging Pittsburgh Pirates. Brave enough MLB Bettors have made some nice coin of late backing the Pirates who come into this series, winners in eight of their last 10. They’re coming off a series win at St. Louis that saw them win two of three, and they’ve made their MLB backers close to $700.00 throughout their hot streak. With the series win against the Cardinals, the Pirates have now won three straight series for the first time since August of last year. That said, they’ve been dominated throughout their first six meetings with the Cubs this season getting outscored 52-24, and it’s been over a year since they last won a game at Wrigley Field.

Tom Gorzelanny put forth a tremendous start his last time out in Atlanta after skipping his previous start due to tightness in his lower back. He went 7 1/3rd innings allowing seven hits and two runs in the Pirates 5-2 road victory. Overall, “Gorzo” is 3-3 with a 5.97 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. He hasn’t fared well against Chicago in his career going 2-3 with a bloated 6.06 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in six career starts. He’s faced them twice this season and got blown up in both starts allowing a combined 12 hits and 14 runs in just five total innings of work.

Opposing him will be Chicago’s Sean Gallagher who earned the Cubs a win in his spot start against the D’Backs last weekend. His effort allowed him to stick around and continue pitching in the spot vacated by Rich Hill who was demoted to the minors a couple weeks back.

Oddsmakers opened the Cubs midrange –140 home favorites in today’s baseball betting affair with the ‘total’ yet to be determined. BetUS.com offers all MLB betting odds be it side, total, or run-line, so be sure to login to your account and get your wagers down before today’s first pitch.

The Cubs have made a habit of dominating the Pirates recently taking each of their last nine meetings in commanding fashion, and they’re 6-3 as a home favorite between –125 and –150 this season. They’re also a money-making 8-1 SU the L/9 times they’ve faced a left-hander at home. Even though the Pirates are 5-2 their L/7 as a road underdog, they’re a poor 8-22 their L/30 as a road underdog between +110 and +150. Not to mention 1-5 in Gorzelanny’s L/6 road starts.
