MLB Betting – Pennant Races Heating Up
By BetUS Staff
Baseball’s top teams will be looking to knock their magic numbers down into the single digits this week, and those doing some MLB betting will be looking to cash in on those top clubs. Here’s a look at the series between contenders coming up on the schedule:
Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies
(Series runs from Monday to Thursday)
It could be Wild Card or bust for both of these teams by the end of the week – the Phillies have been stagnant in the NL East, while the
Rockies have to leap over three other teams in order to win the NL West. And if either one of these clubs manages to lose three or four times during this series they might then be playing for next season.
Atlanta Braves at New York Mets
(Series runs from Monday to Wednesday)
The
Braves are behind both the Mets and the Phillies in the NL East, but a three-game sweep in this set could at least make things interesting for Chipper Jones and company down the stretch. Atlanta is still a contender for the Wild Card as well, although they’re chasing most of the NL West in that race. The Mets aren’t too worried about first place.
San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers
(Series runs from Tuesday to Thursday)
Suddenly the Diamondbacks are hot again in the NL West, and as a result the Padres find themselves back in second place in that division. San Diego, though, is still in control of the NL’s Wild Card race, so they’re in the thick of two stretch battles. The Dodgers are lurking just behind San Diego in both the division and the Wild Card race.
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox
(Series runs from Friday to Sunday)
This series could be the last chance for
New York to assert themselves in the AL East division race – if Joe Torre’s team can’t pick up a sweep in this three-game set, they’ll likely need to concede first place to their rival and concentrate on the AL Wild Card spot. The
Red Sox still have a small lead on the Angels for the top record in the league.
Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets
(Series runs from Friday to Sunday)
If the series early in the week go their way, the
Phillies could have a chance to move within striking distance of first place in the NL East with a strong performance in this three-game set. In turn, the
Mets could use this series to all but clinch first place in the division, and then have the rest of the regular season to gun for the NL’s best record.
Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals
(Series runs from Friday to Sunday)
It’s still impossible to say which NL Central team is going to end up in first place in that mediocre division, but the
Cubs and
Cardinals can each help themselves out by winning two or three games in this series. Making this set even more important is the fact that the team that finishes in second place in the NL Central won’t be a Wild Card contender.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers
(Series runs from Friday to Sunday)
The
Diamondbacks are sitting atop the NL West division once again, and they can pretty much end the
Dodgers’ first-place dreams with a win in this series. The D-Backs will also be scoreboard-watching in the upcoming week – a poor seven days by the Padres will give them some welcome breathing room in the race for a postseason berth.
