MLB Baseball Odds - Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

For this Saturday’s game the Rangers bring in Kevin Millwood who has been in baseball forever. Okay, this is only his 11th year, but if this were football the man would already be writing his hall-of-fame acceptance speech. Not because Millwood is that good but because players rarely last that long in the No Fun League.

In the MLB where everybody is expected to have fun Millwood is sort of a teenager still. He’s not as much of a teenager as his Saturday opponent, Jered Weaver, but he’s not the Rocket either. Millwood can still throw and with a lifetime ERA of 3.96, I expect Millwood to come out and to throw a good game.

Weaver has a lifetime ERA of 3.35 and the Angels are heavy with the bats. I’ve taken all of that into consideration when making these personal wagering lines.

Texas Rangers

Kevin Millwood + 1 ½ - 140 + 130 O 9

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Jered Weaver - 1 ½ + 120 - 150 U 9

My personal wagering lines should be close to what BetUS offers come Saturday morning. The reason is that neither one of these guys is heads and tails above the other. Usually, the home pitcher is - 1 ½ while the visiting pitcher is always + 1 ½ . This isn’t the case in every game, for instance the BetUS odds on Paul Byrd for the Cleveland Indians on the road in the Indians’ Friday game is + 1 ½ - 210, but this is how odds-makers usually set the lines.

In any case, you don’t want to be spot-on when setting your personal lines. What you are trying to do is create limits for yourself. What are the odds that you will take on Jered Weaver? What are the odds that you will take on Kevin Millwood? If the BetUS MLB lines are out of whack with what you think they should be, that means you are staring at a big wager, right?

Always trust your personal handicapping abilities when deciding on what to wager on.

Okay, now that the lesson is over what do I really think about this game? I love the Angels. Why? Because their batting line-up is rock solid. There’s no reason for the Angels not score at least five or six runs in every game this season. They may not win all of those games, but I do believe that they should put up that many runs.

The bats will be there all year. All Weaver has to do is get up onto the mound and not give up more than four runs. Of course, Weaver wasn’t able to do that in his first start of the season, a 3 – 2 loss versus the Minnesota Twins - - oh, wait, Weaver did do that. He gave up only 3 runs in that loss.

So, there we have it. If we are getting anything close to + 120 on Jered Weaver in this game then giving up the 1 ½ runs is no problem to me. The Angels bats won’t let him down again.
