MLB Baseball Betting - Washington at N.Y. Mets
By Charles Jay
BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: N.Y. Mets -200, Washington +170; Total 8.5 (-110 each way)
The New York Mets (19-17) are having a heck of a time keeping pace in the online betting frenzy of the National League's East division. On Tuesday night they'll try to get a little payback against the Washington Nationals (16-23) in an sports betting NL game that is set to get underway at 7:10 PM ET at Shea Stadium (natural turf) in Flushing, N.Y.
Left-hander John Lannan (3-3, 3.40 ERA) will be the starter for the Nats, while John Maine (4-2, 3.00 ERA), a righty, takes the mound for the Mets.
At BetUS Sportsbook, New York is listed as a -200 favorite (Washington is +170), with a total of 8.5 runs (you will lay -110 each way).
Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
* WASH has lost five of its last seven games
* WASH has played five of its last seven games OVER the total
* WASH has lost 12 of its last 16 road games
* NY has played five of its last six games OVER the total
* NY has won eight of its last 12 home games
* NY has played six of its last seven home games OVER the total
In the HEAD-TO-HEAD MLB betting trends:
* NY has won four of the last six meetings
* Eleven of the last 14 meetings have gone OVER the total
* Eight of the last 13 meetings in New York have gone UNDER the total
As they started the season, the Nationals needed starting pitching in the worst way, and John Lannan has been like a godsend to them. Lannan got bombed out by the Braves in an April 12 start, surrendering six runs in four innings, but since then he's had four dazzling starts in his last five, compiling a 2.17 ERA during that time. Pittsburgh blew him away two starts ago, scoring five runs in three innings, but aside from that, he's given up one run or less in four starts, including a one-run, no-walk, 11-strikeout gem against the Mets over six innings on April 17, which went for naught as his team could score only twice in the 3-2 defeat.

John Maine, who won 15 games for New York last year, was being counted on heavily again this season, especially as Pedro Martinez and El Duque Hernandez became unavailable to them. Maine has come through. Since a very tough first outing against the Atlanta Braves, in which he lasted four innings, giving up four runs, he has sported a 2.37 ERA, giving up ten earned runs in 38 innings. And the Mets have won five of those last six starts. Manager Willie Randolph feels he can get a solid outing from Maine virtually every time he's taken the mound.
The problem here is that we're not crazy about the price on the Mets (-200). So since we seem to have two pitchers in very good form, we're going to buck recent trends and side with the "under" here. That's UNDER 8.5 runs, as it is posted in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: UNDER 8.5 (-110)
