MLB Baseball Betting Trends - Pirates vs. Reds
by D.S Williamson
The Pittsburgh Pirates will be looking for their first road series victory in seven weeks when they take on the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. The Reds beat the Pirates on Monday. Then, the Pirates won in the 11th inning, after giving up a lead, on Tuesday night. They send pitcher John Van Benschoten to the mound for the third game of this sports betting series. Van Benschoten hasn’t exactly been the go-to-guy for Pittsburgh this year. BetUS baseball betting fans might notice that Van Benschoten’s numbers are pretty horrible. He has an ERA of 8.31. His record is 1 and 2 even though he’s started only 1 game. That means that Van Benschoten has a knack for losing games after coming in as a reliever. That’s not a good thing.
The Cincinnati Reds counter the very hittable Van Benschoten with pitcher Daryl Thompson. Thompson has started only two games this season, but in both games he gave a good accounting of himself. He has pitched a total of 10 innings and has acquired an ERA of 3.60 and a record of 0 and 1.
Here are the BetUS sportsbook online betting MLB odds for this game.
Pittsburgh Pirates
John Van Benschoten – R + 1 ½ - 165 + 120 O 10 ½ - 105
Cincinnati Reds
Daryl Thompson – R - 1 ½ + 145 Ev U 10 ½ - 115
Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 1 and 10 in John Van Benschoten’s last 11 starts.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 0 and 7 in John Van Benschoten’s last 7 starts as the underdog.
The Cincinnati Reds are 11 and 28 in their last 39 games versus a team with a losing record.
The Cincinnati Reds are 1 and 6 in their last 7 games at home.
Okay, nobody wants to win this game. I mean, the online betting trends clearly favor…nobody.
So, what does an online sportsbook wagering fan do when neither team wants to step it up? Go with his gut.
My gut tells me that Van Benschoten will give up a few runs to the Cincinnati Reds and that Daryl Thompson could have another good game. I actually like Thompson on the BetUS run-line at – 1 ½ + 145 in this one.
Giving up 1 ½ runs to a team like Pittsburgh can be a big deal because Pitt, more often then not, plays above their talent level but starting Van Benschoten in this game, and then following him up with that terrible bull-pen, means that the Reds win big.
I’ll be making an online wager on Daryl Thompson and the Cincinnati Reds to win this game by more then two runs.
