MLB Baseball Betting – Team Previews - Who’s Not?
By Mike Rose
1) Seattle Mariners (2-8) (-$847.00) The Mariners got off to a fabulous start to their 2007 campaign, but that just hasn’t been the case here in the present. They’ve lost 8 of their L/10 overall costing Mariner bettors $847.00 smackaroos, and they’ve been a dreadful MLB wager all season long losing their backers a lofty $1,371.00 to date. The offense can’t hit its way out of a paper bag averaging a bleak 4.07 RPG to rank 24th in the league, and their OPS of .690 is good for 26th meaning they can’t get on and they can’t get them in when they’re on. Their pitching has also failed them as prized off-season acquisition Erik Bedard is only 2-2 in his six starts on a staff that ranks 23rd overall with a team ERA of 4.45. The bullpen also ranks in the bottom third of the league with a 4.17 ERA, and it’s blown five of its 12 save opportunities thus far. On top of that, the defense has left a ton to be desired already committing 31 errors on the year. They’ve earned just two wins in the 13 games they’ve played in May, and things look to be getting worse before they get better with seven of their next 15 coming on the road. Hopefully they can improve upon the worst record in all of baseball in the coming weeks.
2) Detroit Tigers (2-8) (-$679.00) The 2008 Detroit tigers have to be one of the biggest disappointments in MLB history in quite some time. This club was predicted to be an offensive machine that would be able to overcome its pitching staffs shortcomings. Prognosticators couldn’t have forecasted this clubs future any worse as they sit in last place of the AL Central, but only 4.5-games in back of the first place Minnesota Twins. There’s still hope for this club, but MLB sports betting enthusiasts might have jumped off the bandwagon by then after absorbing a whopping $1,158.00 bucks in losses throughout the first month and a half of the season. The offense has come around of late increasing its 2.5 RPG average after the first two weeks of the season to 4.67 RPG to come in ranked 13th in that category this week. The major problem has been the pitching staff that’s currently ranked dead last (#30) with a team ERA of 5.08. They’ve only received 10 quality starts, which is surprising considering Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman are two key components of the staff. The only starter with a sub 4.80 ERA is rookie Armando Galarraga whose 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA and a solid K/BB ratio of 21/9. Making matters even worse for Manager Jimmy Leyland’s pitching staff is the bullpen that’s blown just as many saves as its earned (5/5). It doesn’t get any easier for the Tigers throughout the remainder of the month with series’ scheduled to go against the Royals, D’Backs, Mariners, Twins, and Angels. These guys have to start earning their paychecks sometime soon….right?
The next worst mark over the L/10 games was 4-6, earned by the Orioles, White Sox, Nationals, Brewers, Cardinals, and the entire NL West……
