MLB Baseball Betting - Series 4-Pack
By Dave Golokhov
St. Louis Cardinals @ Houston Astros
The Houston Astros will play their home opener at Minute Maid Park on Monday and the home field advantage should help them get closer to .500 after a 2-5 start.
With their big bats, the Astros have certain contours to their park that will work to their advantage.
Wandy Rodriguez will pitch the opener for Houston and although he got rocked in his first start, I’m expecting his home/away trend from last season to continue.
Rodriguez was 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA at home last year; he was 3-10 with a 6.37 ERA on the road last year.
Free Pick: Houston
Atlanta Braves @ Colorado Rockies
The National League Champion Colorado Rockies have yet to win at home this season, but that will change in this series. The Atlanta Braves will throw Tom Glavine, Jair Jurrjens and Chuck James in the first three games of the four-game series while the Rockies will send Aaron Cook, Ubaldo Jimenez and Mark Redman to the mound.
The Rockies bats have been quiet so far this season – including Matt Holliday, who started the year 1-14 – but with a few scrubs coming to the mound after Glavine, they should wake up. They have averaged 2.2 runs per game and have yet to score more than three runs in any game.
The final game of the series will pit aces Tim Hudson and Jeff Francis.
Free Pick: Colorado
Los Angeles Dodgers @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Dodgers and new manager Joe Torre head to Arizona for a three-game series.
Both teams are 4-2 but the Diamondbacks have played all six of their games on the road.
Dan Haren will pitch the home opener for the Diamondbacks, but after that, the Dodgers have a pitching advantage in the remaining two games.
They will send Chad Billingsley to the hill on Tuesday and Hiroki Kuroda on Wednesday. Considering the D-Backs have yet to see import Kuroda, that should give him an advantage.
This series is closely contested but the Dodgers are the veteran team, which is why I like them in this series.
Free Pick: Los Angeles
San Diego Padres @ San Francisco Giants
The Giants are 1-5 this season and appear to be one of the worst teams in all of baseball. But as they open up their stadium for the first time this year, I like them in a mid-week series against the Padres.
The Giants will be sending their two best pitchers to the mound in this series, which is why you are getting good value.
Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum will pitch Monday and Tuesday while the Padres will send Greg Maddux, Randy Wolf and Justin Germano to the hill for the three-game series.
The Padres are a low-scoring team, which further indicates that the better pitching should win this series. The Giants also don’t score in bunches, so their weakness should be less evident this week.
Free Pick: San Francisco
