MLB Baseball Betting Odds - N.Y. Mets at St. Louis

The New York Mets (41-42) will be trying to get back to the .500 mark on Wednesday night when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals (48-37) in a National League encounter that is scheduled to get underway at 8:15 PM ET at Busch Stadium (natural turf) in St. Louis.
Three-time Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez (2-2, 7.12 ERA) goes for the Mets, while fellow right-hander Joel Pineiro (2-4, 4.33 ERA) opposes him for the Cardinals.
At BetUS online sportsbook, St. Louis is listed as a -115 sports betting favorite (New York is -105), with a total of nine runs (-110 each way).

The Mets beat St. Louis 7-4 on Tuesday night, and kept pace 4.5 games behind the NL East-leading Phillies. The Cardinals are right in the thick of things in the NL's Central division, just 2.5 games in back of the Cubs.
Pedro Martinez, a sure-fire Hall of Famer, has a 211-95 lifetime record. But he's having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after his injury. His ERA is up over 7.00, and he has not gotten anyone out in either of his last two outings. At Denver on June 21, the Rockies reached him for nine hits and six runs before he was chased in the fifth inning, and five days ago he was banged around a bit by the Yankees, yielding six hits, five walks and six runs in 5-2/3 frames. The Mets were outscored 16-1 in those games. All of this pretty much overshadows the fact that Martinez has been very strong in his last five outings against St. Louis, compiling a 2,32 ERA.
Joel Pineiro gave up seven runs in 7-2/3 innings against Kansas City in his last start; previous to that he had been on a pretty nice run, with a 2.37 ERA in three outings. But Pineiro could legitimately sue his teammates for non-support; the Cards do not hit for him, scoring 10 runs in his last five starts. This former Seattle pitcher has faced the Mets once, shutting out New York on three hits over eight innings last September 27.
The Mets scored 15 runs against the Yankees five days ago and seven runs last night. In between, it was just six runs in four games. We can't look upon Pedro with much confidence, even thought we would sincerely like to. For us, on this night, it's the Cardinals, the short -115 favorite in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
