MLB Baseball Betting - Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox
by Mike Rose
Oakland continued its dominance over the White Sox franchise in last night’s online betting affair by snagging the first of the four game set. The 3-2 victory saw them win for the sixth time the last seven times they’ve squared off. Oakland now sits a game over .500 on the road at 19-18 reeling the betting public in a cool $530 on the year, and in the process gained half a game on the idle LA Angels for the top spot in the AL West. The loss snapped the Palehose seven game overall and nine game home winning streaks, and they now hold just a two-game lead in the AL Central over the Minnesota Twins who gained ground on an off night. MLB Bettors have banked this season by backing the White Sox at “The Cell” cashing 30 of 42 overall tickets and bringing in close to $1500 overall.
What the heck is up with Joe Blanton this year? The guy’s notched double-digit victories for the A’s the last three seasons, but it looks as if that streak will come to an end with him sporting a 4-11 record coming into his 19th start of his campaign. After allowing 23 home runs in his rookie season back in 2005, Blanton only served up 17 and 16 bombs the following two seasons. He’s already given up 12 gopher balls this year, and the seasons only halfway through. The soft-tossing righties control is “MIA”, and that was clearly evident in his last start when the weak hitting San Francisco Giants roughed him up for eight hits and seven earned runs in just four innings of work. It was the second time in his last three starts that he allowed seven plus runs. He’s been even worse on the road where he owns a 2-3 mark with a bloated 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in five overall starts. He’ll have his work cut out for him tonight against a White Sox club that he’s 2-1 against with a 3.12 ERA in three career starts.
Lefty Mark Buehrle was a dominant force within the White Sox rotation in the month of June. He gave up a total of eight earned runs and 37 hits in 45 total innings of work, and lasted eight innings in four of the six starts. In his last start against the Cubs, Buehrle failed to go eight for the fifth game in a row, but manager Ozzie Guillen will take seven innings of one-run ball every time out if possible. In his L/5 starts, Buehrle is 4-0 with a slick 1.15 ERA. Overall, He’s 6-6 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, but those numbers hardly do him justice after the June he just churned out. At “The Cell”, he’s 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.13 WHIP allowing 40 hits and 17 runs with a K/BB ratio of 27/15 in seven overall starts. In his career against Oakland, Buehrle’s been saddled with 10 losses to just three wins, but he’s kept the A’s bats in check evidenced by the 3.98 ERA and 1.36 WHIP posted in 18 overall starts.
