MLB Baseball Betting - N.Y. Yankees at Boston Red Sox
By Charles Jay
BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: Boston -110, New York -110, Total 9.5
Two teams who may ave expected to be a little better than .500 will clash on Friday night for the start of what should be a spirited three-game set, as the New York Yankees (5-5) visit Fenway Park to face the Boston Red Sox (5-5) in an American League contest that is set to begin at 7:05 PM ET.
Chien-Ming Wang (2-0, 1,39 ERA) will take the mound for the Yanks, while Clay Buchholz (0-1, 5.40 ERA) receives the assignment for Boston.
At BetUS Sportsbook, the game is listed as a pick'em (-110 each way), with a total of 9.5 runs.
Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
(NOTE: These trends may also revert back to the 2007 season)
* NY has played its last six games UNDER the total
* NY has lost four of its last five road games
* NY has played four of its last five road games UNDER the total
* BOS has won 12 of its last 17 games
* BOS has lost four of its last six games
* BOS has won six of its last seven home games
* BOS has played six of its last nine home games OVER the total
In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:
* NY has won six of the last seven meetings
* Four of the last six meetings have gone UNDER the total
* NY has won 11 of the last 16 meetings as the road team
* Eight of the last nine meetings in Boston have gone OVER the total
And so the saga continues - this time with a couple of new "players." Joe Girardi is now at the helm of the Yankees, and experiences the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry from this vantage point for the first time.
He'll be in truly great shape on the hill with Chien-Ming Wang going for the guys in pinstripes. Wang has been very difficult to reach, allowing two runs and ten hits over 13 innings in two starts. In five outings against the Sox last year, Wang was banged around only in the last one, a 10-1 defeat in which he yielded five runs in 5-2/3 innings. With a 47-18 career record, there are few better starters in the game. And since he forces about 60% ground balls when batters put the ball into play, it puts him in good stead at Fenway.
Clay Buchholz had a so-so outing first time out, though there is no doubting his stuff. The Red Sox righty gave up three runs in five innings against the Blue Jays six days ago. Buchholz, who threw a no-hitter last year in his second major league start, is one of Boston's big hopes for the present and future, and with Curt Schilling out until August, he is even more important that potential turns into performance.
Jorge Posada returned to the Yankee lineup against Kansas City last night in the designated hitter role. He might not catch, but Girardi wants his bat in the lineup. Derek Jeter, however, will not be available tonight. On the Boston side, Mike Lowell is on the 15-day disabled list.
Considering that the Yankees, who juggled the lineup last night against the Royals, still haven't escaped their offensive doldrums (3.1 runs a game) and the ace is on the mound, we'll look for them to continue their trend of unders (six in a row at the moment). go OVER 9.5 runs in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: OVER 9.5
