MLB Baseball Betting - Interleague Play Gets Underway
by BetUS Staff
Love it or hate it, baseball’s interleague play gets underway this weekend. And for those doing any MLB betting over the next few days, that means a whole new set of matchups to study. Here’s a look at all of the AL vs. NL series on the schedule for this weekend.
New York Mets at New York Yankees
Yet another subway series, with both New York teams boasting middling records so far this season. Johan Santana is set to whiff a few of the Bronx Bombers on Friday night.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels
Los Angeles will always be the Dodgers’ turf, but the Angels are the better team once again this season. Unbeaten Ervin Santana pitches for the Angels on Saturday afternoon.
The last-place Reds are expected to make a call to the minors for some reinforcements soon, but probably not before battling their state rival. Carmona vs. Harang on Saturday.
The Orioles are trying to hold on to respectability after getting out to quick start, while the Nationals are no good once again. Shawn Hill vs. Garrett Olson in Friday’s opener.
Lance Berkman alone is keeping the Astros in contention in the NL Central standings, while the Rangers are trying to get to .500. Roy Oswalt is projected to pitch on Saturday.
Dice-K will look to baffle Brewers hitters on Friday night, while Milwaukee will look to slugging Ryan Braun to continue his red-hot ways through this crossover weekend set.
Blue Jays fans will get to see what actual hitters look like when they watch this series. Philly misses Roy Halladay, but Shaun Marcum should be a challenge for them on Sunday.
Just what the floundering Tigers need – an interleague series against one of the best teams from the National League. Haren, Scherzer, and Johnson are probable for Arizona.
Can the Marlins keep up their winning ways? The schedule maker helps them out with the Royals as their first interleague matchup. Scott Olsen probable for Florida on Friday.
Can the Devil Rays keep up their winning ways? Unfortunately, they have to play the good Missouri team this weekend. 5-1 Andy Sonnanstine pitches for Tampa on Friday.
The Mariners were looking to contend this season; instead they find themselves in last place. The Padres? Not so great either. Erik Bedard is projected for Seattle on Sunday.
The Athletics have been hanging in there with the Angels in the AL West, while the Braves are only hovering around .500 despite the early hitting heroics of Chipper Jones.
The defending NL champs haven’t had much luck against teams from their own league, so perhaps an AL matchup will be welcome. Winless Jeff Francis is probable for Sunday.
Chicago White Sox at San Francisco
The White Sox have been slipping back to the pack since a solid start, while the Giants don’t look like a contender. Buehrle vs. Zito on Saturday in a battle of struggling starters.
The Pirates and the Cubs are the teams left without a dance partner this weekend, so they’re stuck playing regular-old intraleague baseball. Carlos Zambrano goes Saturday.
