MLB Baseball Betting - Colorado at San Diego

BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: San Diego -150, Colorado +130; Total 6.5

Two lesser-lights in the National League West will tangle on Friday night for some sports betting action when the Colorado Rockies (14-21), the defending NL champions, visit Southern California to play the San Diego Padres (12-23) in a division game that is set to get underway at 10:05 PM ET.

Two ace right-handers will take the mound against each other, as Aaron Cook (4-1, 2.40 ERA) starts for the Rockies against Jake Peavy (4-1, 2.66 ERA) of the Padres.

At BetUS Sportsbook, San Diego is listed as a -150 favorite (Colorado is +130), with a posted total of 6.5 runs.

Here are some of the MLB Baseball online betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* COL has lost 13 of its last 18 games

* COL has lost six of its last seven road games

* COL has played four of its last five road games UNDER the total

* SD has lost six of its last seven games

* SD has lost six of its last seven home games

* SD has played five of its last six home games UNDER the total

In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:

* COL has won seven of the last eight meetings

* Six of the last nine meetings have gone UNDER the total

* COL has won five of the last six meetings as the road team

* Nine of the last 13 meetings in San Diego have gone UNDER the total

Neither team is playing very well. The Padres have lost four games in a row, and run production has been even a bit lower than usual (12 in that four-game period). Last night they lost a close one to the Braves, who scored in the bottom of the ninth to win it.

Help is on the way.

Jake Peavy has been one of the better starters in the National League this season. The 27 year-old, who had a 19-6 record with a 2.54 ERA last season on his way to the Cy Young award by unanimous vote, has been solid just about every time out. Opposing teams are batting .200 against him, and his strikeout-walk ratio is almost 3-to-1. The Padres are averaging just 3.34 runs per game, but in Peavy's starts they are averaging five runs.

Peavy's opposition on Friday is going to be very challenging. Aaron cook is the best pitcher Colorado's had, and since his first start of th year, when he pitched solidly but still gave up four runs in six innings to St. Louis, he has compiled a 1.90 ERA. In none of his starts since that initial outing has he yielded more than three runs, and in his last four, he's allowed just four runs in a shade under 30 innings. And Cook has a strong recent history against this opponent, recording a 1.98 ERA in his last five starts against San Diego. In those games, remarkably, he hasn't walked anybody.

Colorado is scoring over a run per game more than San Diego. And the Padres are hardly showing any home field advantage (6-9 overall, and six losses in the last seven). With their top starter on the mound, we think there's enough to go with Colorado and take the price. It's the Rockies as the +130 underdog in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
