MLB Baseball Betting - Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs
by Mike Rose
The New York Mets and Yankees partake in the “Subway Series” every year, but all MLB bettors’ eyes will be locked in on the Windy City this weekend when Ozzie Guillen’s Chicago White Sox invade Wrigley Field to take on Lou Piniella and the Chicago Cubs in an online sports betting extravaganza. Bragging rights will be up in the air as both clubs enter this series atop their respective divisions. The White Sox currently hold a 4.5-game lead over the Minnesota Twins for the top spot in the AL Central Division, while the Chicago Cubs hold a 3.5-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. The White Sox have been a tremendous money-maker for the betting public at home evidenced by its 24-11 record that’s brought its betting backers in a healthy $1072.00 on the year, but they’ve struggled on the road to the tune of a 17-20 mark. The Cubs track record at home is no secret to MLB handicappers as they boast the best home mark in the entire league. They’ve won 29 of their 37 overall games within the “friendly confines” of Wrigley field, and in the process made astute baseball prognosticators a lofty $1651.00 of pure profit. They’re currently in the midst of an 11-game home winning streak!!! Cub fans have had a year to brag about how their club took the Southsiders out behind the woodshed and served up a severe beating. They won five of the six meetings a year ago, which included a three-game sweep at US Cellular field.
John Danks is coming off another solid effort his last time out against Colorado where he limited the Rockies to five hits and no earned runs while striking out six and issuing one free pass through six innings of work. He didn’t figure in the decision and is yet to lose a start since May 24th. This will be his first start on the road in three outings, but he’s excelled as a visitor going 2-1 with a miniscule 1.72 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in six total starts. This will be his first ever look at the rivals from the north.

His control was extremely shaky in his last start against Toronto where he walked five batters, but he managed to keep the Blue Jays offense in check limiting them to just one hit and no runs through six gutsy innings of work. Lilly’s 4-2 at home and has allowed 36 hits and 25 runs (22 earned) with a K/BB ratio of 46/13 in 39+ innings of work. He’s 5-2 with a 6.22 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in nine career starts against the Chicago White Sox with his most recent start being a 6-3 win at Wrigley last season.

As much as were impressed with Danks body of work of late, the White Sox are a poor 11-17 as an underdog in the +100 to +150 range this season, and their offense has gone into hiding a number of times on the road. The Cubs are off a brutal series at Tampa Bay and desperately need to get back on the right foot in this series. No better place to get it done than at Wrigley where they’ve secured victories 78% of the time this season. Round one goes the way of the home team.
