Horse Racing Odds - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and he will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers.

Wednesday’s single did not come through and we only managed to hit two of the three winners on our Pick 3 ticket from the Aqueduct.

Today’s cards from both Oaklawn Park and Aqueduct look very promising. There is a good list of live longshots and in both of our featured races, it looks like we can beat the likely favorite.

Today's Featured Races of the Day:

AQU Race 7 OClm $75,000N1X (3:55 et)

#4 Lion's Maddy 5/1

#6 Huge Party 5/2

#7 Home Crowd 8/1

#2 Outside Lane 3/1

Analysis: #4 Lion's Maddy came with a mild late rally up the rail to finish fourth last out in her first start against winners, beaten 3 1/4 lengths for the top spot. The speed fig earned in that effort seems to be on the light side. The winner of the race was Armonk, who popped an 83 Beyer in her next start when second in the Dearly Precious on 2/17. Filly owns a solid pace profile with good average and sustained pace numbers. We likely are going to see a better effort out of this gal here and Ramon picks up the call.

#6 Huge Party is one of three in here that has beaten winners, taking a $50K starter allowance last out in gate to wire fashion and earning the top last out speed fig in the effort. The third place finisher in that race was African Treasure, a next out winner against $50K starter allowance company on 2/14. She is a logical threat to win here at a light price.

Wagering

WIN: #4 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 4,6 / 2,4,6,7

TRI: 4,6 / 2,4,6,7 / 2,4,5,6,7

OP Race 7 OClm $12,000N1X (4:17 ct)

#8 Everything's Rosie 5/1

#5 Beautiful Rainbows 5/2

#2 Meeither 9/2

#1 R Sassy Sarah 7/2

Analysis: #8 Everything's Rosie did not fire her best last out against $35K starter allowance foes, checking in fourth. Two back was a sharp winner at this condition going gate to wire. Not sure why this gal did not show early zip last out but expecting to see more early speed from her in this spot facing state breds.

#5 Beautiful Rainbows is making her first start since a fifth place finish on Tapeta last September. She did not care much for the synthetic surface in two outings there and returns to a surface where she is 7-2-2-1 in her career. She owns solid early and sustained pace numbers and if she is ready to fire off the bench, she will be in the mix early. Barn is on the light side with layoff types, hitting at an 8% clip with horses returning off a 61-180 day layoff.

Wagering

WIN: #8 to win at 3/1 or better.

Starting in Race 7: $1: 4,6 / 2,4,7 / 4,5,6,7 = $24

AQU Race 7 OClm $75,000N1X (3:55 et)

#4 Lion's Maddy, #6 Huge Party

(for analysis see today’s featured race)

AQU Race 8 Limit S. (4:25 et)

#4 Rite Moment, #2 Street Bird, #7 Devil House

#4 Rite Moment stretches out to a route for the first time here for Contessa barn that is 12% winners moving runners from sprint to route. Last out made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot in the Correction 'Cap. The filly was off poorly and raced wide much of the trip over an inside speed favoring racing strip. Two back the filly earned a career top beating Alw-2 optional claimers. She is by Vicar out of a Lost Code mare and has enough pedigree to handle the stretch out.

#2 Street Bird went gate to wire last out over a racing strip that was slightly speed favoring, to beat Alw-2 optional claimers. This gal has won 3 of 4 since switching to the inner and landing with Tony D.

AQU Race 9 Md $15,000 (4:55 et)

#6 Eire'y Feeling, #4 Oh My Papa, #7 Hopingforawin, #5 Carlyn Darlyn

#6 Eire'y Feeling comes back quickly after a third place finish in her debut on 2/28 at 9/2 in a field of nine. She showed some early speed, dueling for the early lead before weakening in the stretch. The filly attracted Ramon for her debut and the jock does not ride much for Paraneck and he sticks for another go here. She is by Artax out of the stakes winner Casa Eire, who has dropped six other foals to race, three winners, top earner Thunder Fire ($116K).

#4 Oh My Papa does not find a real tough spot here for her debut. Ritvo barn is 7% winners with first timers. She is by Satellite Sun, who I know little about, out of a Brief True mare that has dropped two other foals to race, both winners, top earner O Mea Maya ($65K).

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
