Horse Racing Odds: Padding Your Bankroll Saturday October 13

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

Today's QE II at Keeneland will give us a sneak peak at the European vs. U.S. match up we likely will see in most of the turf races on Breeders' Cup Day. Dreaming of Anna is developing into one of the most talented three year old turf fillies in the U.S. She will take on a Group 1 winner from Europe in our featured race of the day.

In addition to today's featured race, we'll invest $48 in the Late Pick 4 at Keeneland.

Today's Featured Race of the Day:

KEE Race 9 QE II Cup S. G1 (5:15 et)

#6 Coquerelle 7/2

#7 Dreaming of Anna 3/1

#2 Good Mood 8/1

#9 Sharp Susan 8/1

Analysis: #6 Coquerelle faded to finish 14th and last in the G1 French Oaks, her first loss after starting off her career with four consecutive wins including the G1 Prix Saint Alary at Longchamp. Lasix added to the mix here as she makes her U.S. debut. She ran well off the bench in April. She figures to give a better account of herself here.

#7 Dreaming of Anna has won three in a row and is 5 for 6 on the grass in her career. Drew clear with a good looking effort last out to win the G3 Pucker Up and won the Va Oaks tow back, both at today's nine furlong distance. The turf here is generally not as kind to front runners but so far at the meeting 3 of 7 at this D/S have been won by early speed types. The 3/1 ML looks fair enough but price is likely going to be lighter.

#2 Good Mood made a mild late rally while wide to finish sixth last out in the G3 Lake George. That race has been highly productive, producing four next out stakes winners including the winner Ruthierenne, who won the G1 Del Mar Oaks in her next start.

Wagering

WIN: #6 to win at 5/2 or better.

EX: 6,7 / 2,6,7,9

TRI: 6,7 / 2,6,7,9 / 1,2,6,7,8

Keeneland Late Pick 4

The Play: Starting in Race 7: 4,8 / 5,6,9 / 6,7 / 1,3,6,9 = $48

KEE Race 7 Perryville S. G3 (4:15 et)

#4 Les Grands Trois, #8 Morada Key

#4 Les Grands Trois came off a 5 1/2 month layoff with a game win against Alw-2 optional claimers. The stretch out to seven furlongs should suit and this guy has the ideal running style for the surface. Was third two back in the G3 Bay Shore. Looks tough here as the likely favorite.

#8 Morada Key came with a five wide run and finished well for the runner up spot last out at Turfway going six furlongs. Passed the Alw-2L condition over the poly here at the spring meeting at today's distance. Should be rolling late and the 10/1 ML looks fair enough to toss him in the mix.

KEE Race 8 Alw $52,000N2L (4:45 et)

#9 Taking Stock, #5 Rumari, #6 Valentine Fever

Analysis: #9 Taking Stock got up late top graduate in her third career start and faces winners for the first time here for sharp barn. This gal ran in a couple of highly graded races in her first two starts. Ran into Subtle Aly in her debut, that filly coming back to win the G3 Schylerville in her next start on 7/25. Two back our top pick ran third behind repeat winner Palanka City, who beat Alw-1 foes in her next start and then ran third in the $100K Bassinett. Worth a good look if we see close to the 10/1 ML.

#5 Rumari was the beaten chalk in her last two starts trying to pass this condition over the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle. The extra distance here should suit.

KEE Race 9 QE II Cup S. G1 (5:15 et)

#6 Coquerelle, #7 Dreaming of Anna

(For analysis see above)

KEE Race 10 Alw $52,000N1X (5:45 et)

#3 Curvature, #1 Beckwith Street, #6 Lemon Custard, #9 Rocket Legs

#3 Curvature came off nearly a year layoff with a solid effort last out at Turfway, coming with a six wide run to finish in the runner up spot. Figures to be tighter second off the bench for Mott barn that is heating up at the meeting and Borel sticks. Plenty of pedigree to handle the extra distance of ground here.

#1 Beckwith Street came off a eight month layoff to graduate last out at Presque Isle in his first go over a synthetic surface. A couple of good works on the morning tab over at Churchill since arriving in KY.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.

KEE R2: #12 Swiss Reserve 8/1

KEE R3: #1 Executive Chief 8/1

KEE R5: #3 Best Mom 12/1

KEE R6: #4 Bartletts 8/1

KEE R6: #12 Revenge Is Sweet 12/1

KEE R7: #8 Morada Key 10/1

KEE R8: #9 Taking Stock 10/1

KEE R9: #2 Good Mood 8/1

KEE R9: #9 Sharp Susan 8/1

Good luck padding your bankroll today!
