Betting on Horse Racing - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. We start a new week attempting to pad our bankroll, and we’ll head to the Big A for a good nine race card.
Today’s feature could come in chalky for the win payoff, but we do have a couple of decent prices in the mix and the exacta and trifecta can still pay good dividends.
Our Pick 3 ticket is a modest $24 investment on the last three races on the card.
As usual, we will add Oaklawn Park to the mix on Thursday.

Analysis: #1 Regal Playtime went gate to wire to beat $25K non winners of three and this filly finished like she still has plenty left in the tank here. She is 3 for 5 on the inner in her career and now steps in to face NY breds again. Owns a solid pace profile throughout with the edge in early and mid pace numbers. Looks capable of winning right back here.
#8 So Smashley was bumped at the start, sent up to duel for the early lead and weakened to finish fourth last out. Two back in her first go around two turns she checked in third behind repeat winner Cherokee Probe, who beat $25K claimers on 2/16.

#7 Wooden made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out off a three-month break. Caught an inner surface that was slightly favoring inside speed. Two and three back at Finger Lakes the gelding ran into repeat winners in Alw-3L company. Fits well here and broke his maiden on the inner.
#1 Road Not Traveled came up the inside with a mild late run to check in third last out against $15K foes which were four year olds and upward non winners of three or straight four year olds. Colt needs to see some pace in front of him here and does own solid late and sustained pace numbers. Like the jock switch from bug to Ramon.

#7 Aly's Colors, #1 Graeme Central, #9 City in the Clouds
#7 Aly's Colors tracked the early pace from the outside and finished strongly, drawing clear late to win by 2 1/2 lengths at today's Alw-2 condition. This guy ran for just a $5K tag last fall and since Beattie claimed this guy he has won 3 of 5 starts. Looks capable of winning right back.
#1 Graeme Central tracked the early pace and finished evenly for second last out, beaten two lengths for the top spot. Filly earned a career top last out, her third start off the bench. Violette seems to have this gal at the top of her game and she fits well in this spot.

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
