Horse Race Wagering – Horse Betting in Delaware

For horse bettors that are tired of the grind of smoking out winners in New York, or dealing with inferior stock in Jersey, a fresh approach could be the super live racing product at Delaware, where the fields are full, the horse are consistent, the trainers are world class and the bettors can thrive.

The conditioners at Delaware alone can point bettors in the right direction. There is a fine group of trainers like Graham Motion, Tony Dutrow, Larry Jones and Michael Matz who took some stock to the confines of Saratoga this summer and beat the big boys at the own game.

And not to mention, the second leading trainer in the country in races won, Scott Lake, is the clear leader in the clubhouse at Delaware with a near 20-win cushion over Mike Gorham. Lake was only 8 winners off national leader Steve Asmussen through mid-September.

More on some concepts for betting on Delaware winners from the human angle a little later but let’s explore the trends on the racetrack that gamblers have to be aware of to succeed at this meet.

Just like at most conventional dirt tracks, speed is of the essence at Delaware. In sprints up to 6 furlongs, the best place for bettors to find winners if to isolate runners that can show keen early speed or at least press the pace. As the distance increased to 8 and a half furlongs, speed can be neutralize if the pace is hot enough. Pace pressers can win nearly 40% of the time.

On grass, it’s pretty much the same idea. Going short on the lawn, early speed or pace pressers account for over 30% of the heroes while it’s much tougher to cash on the front end going long on turf.

One trainer that bettors have to keep a keen eye on at this Wilmington track is Sandra L. Slivka. She is quietly making a name for herself on the circuit and bettors can get value with her stock. Through mid September, she only sent out 38 Delaware runners but greeted 11 back in the charmed circle while another 10 were in the money.

As far as riders are concerned, three dominate the standings; Jeremy Rose, Ramon Dominguez and Mario Pino. If bettors use these three pilots in combination with any of the top conditioners they are on their way to horse betting heaven.

Recently there have also been some runners that showed promise at Delaware and deserve a long look at the horseracing betting windows the next time they surface but let’s tab one and hope he gets up.

It’s never easy to beat winners after just earning the diploma and Majestic Melody is not as good as his connections had hoped, but his turf debut in a $25K event was much better than it looked.

He pressed the pace to near the top of the lane and then spit out the bit. The blood is there for him to excel and bettors must watch this guy. His winning dam is kin to Grade 1 winner and over $400,000 earner Cuvee and is also kin to Grade 2 winner and near $325,000 earner Will He Shine.

Double up at the windows if he shows up on the cut back.

In closing, if you have the Big Apple blues, don’t feel like fighting the Sopranos in Jersey and are looking for good betting value, check out Delaware and good luck.
