Horse Race Betting – The Swinging 60

by Brian Mulligan

Online sports betting horseplayers that thrive on horse gambling action have a nice little Eastern vehicle to play with this summer, as the Sixty Minute Six will be staged every Saturday through August 30.

The tracks involved are Monmouth Park, Belmont ParkDelaware, and Philadelphia and all of the races will be seen in about an hour.

This is a great concept, as a horse bettor does not have to have his money tied up for hours on end like a Pick Six at one racetrack.

The best thing the powers that be did is to make this a $1 bet if you are using a part wheel. This is just smart as it gives the little guy a chance to get a big score without going into the college fund.

The first day of the wager produced some interesting results.

Two favorites won in the third and 5th leg respectively, one runner paid 7-2, but then three bombs were leveled.

A $22 runner kicked off the sequence, followed by a $19.60 winner and the day ended in Philly with a Rocky Balboa theme to the tune of $37.40.

Five of 6 winners cashed and the payoff was $3907.60 and the rules state that if no bettor successfully hits the 6, 75% of the net pool will be carried over to the following day on which the wager is offered.

This means that the $3907.60 represented 25% of the pool.

There are some rules that horse bettors should be aware of before teeing it up on this bet.

There are no refunds because of scratches. If a horse is scratched, the wager for that leg is moved to the favorite in the race. If there are 2 horses with the exact same money bet on them, which will never happen, the runner with the most inside post position shall be designated.

In a wise move, in the event that a turf race is switched to the main track after close of wagering for the Six, that race shall be declared a ‘no contest’ and the wager will be the result of the other 5 races or how many races are involved.

If there is a deluge back East and 4 races are declared ‘no contest’ the 60-Minute Six will be refunded.

What’s the best way to approach this wager? Well, it won’t be easy since horse bettors will have to be adept at a number of different venues but one way to approach the action would be to find at least 2 singles and spread in the other events.

For instance, if you had 2 singles and spread with 3 horses in the other 4 legs, the ticket would only cost $81.

You can’t draw concrete conclusions from just one day of this wager but horse bettors should stick with horses that are proven with the conditions of the race in question and they should also stick with trainers that pop at a high percentage.

The bomb in Philly for example was coming off a layoff but had won on grass in her turf debut. The winner at Delaware was making his second start in the Northeast off a career effort but the best thing he had going for him is the fact that he takes breakfast at a barn popping at 31% this year.

Put on that retro gear, do your homework early, and clever horse bettors can make a score with this horse wager this summer.
