Padding Your Bankroll: Thursday October 25
By Michael Dempsey
National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.
We started off our Pick 3 on Wednesday with a $27.40 longshot, but got knocked out in the second leg and our $24 ticket went bust. Hopefully you played my top two picks in that seventh race, as the exacta returned $225.80.
Today's Featured Race of the Day:
AQU Race 8 OClm $50,000N2X (4:21 et)
#5 Bridal Path 12/1
#1 Truly Enchanting 5/1
#4 Double Dinghy Day 3/1
#3 Oh Deanne O 5/2
Analysis: #5 Bridal Path stalked the early pace and came up empty in the stretch when trying stakes company last out in her first go for Kaz barn off the claim. He claimed this guy from a frigid outfit that did pick up a win on yesterday's card but has been cold for the most part. Two back the mare beat $25K foes at Monmouth in a sharp effort Back in for a tag here and the 12/1 ML looks more than fair.
#1 Truly Enchanted makes her U.S. debut here. She is by Danehill out of a Affirmed mare. Her top Racing Post rating is 91 which is on the light side but this does not look like a very tough group of Alw-2 foes here. She is in a sharp barn and gets lasix for the first time here.
Wagering
WIN: #5 to win at 5/1 or better.
EX: 1,5 / 1,3,4,5
TRI: 1,5 / 1,3,4,5 / 1,2,3,4,5
Keeneland Late Pick 3
The Play: Starting in Race 7: $1: 1,2,7 / 2,4,5,11 / 3,6 = $24
KEE Race 7 Alw $52,000N1X (4:15 et)
#2 Rutledge Cat, #1 Eastmont / #1a Gowdon Mile, #7 Gallant Again
#2 Rutledge Cat makes his first start since March for Motion barn that is 23% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. The colt broke his maiden over the poly here last fall and barn tried him in stakes company in 3 of his 4 starts after that, a second in the Laurel Futurity and a third in G3 Tropical Park Derby before tailing off form. Put in a fast breeze over the poly here on 10/20 and barn usually has them ready to fire off the bench.
#1 Eastmont was a sharp winner in his debut at Presque Isle and regressed in his first go against winners. Gelding has been working sharply since his last outing and still appears to have plenty of upside.
KEE Race 8 Alw $52,000N1X (4:45 et)
#11 Warn, #4 Parading, #5 Biggerbadderbetter, #2 Kalgoorlie
#11 Warn draws a tough post but the colt has more talent than he showed last out when he checked in a dull ninth in his first start against winners. Two back the son of War Chant got a rail skimming ride from Borel, coming from far out of it to break his maiden. Has been freshened and popped a couple of very quick works over the poly for this race, looking for him to bounce back with a better effort.
#4 Parading has finished in the runner up spot in 2 of his 3 tries against winners. Came with a five wide run last out and flattened out late, missing the top spot by a half length. Blinkers go on this well bred colt and the cut back in distance may suit.
KEE Race 9 Md Sp Wt (5:15 et)
#3 Parchisi, #6 Diverse
#3 Parchisi came with a six wide run and was not a threat to the winner in third place finish in her debut. Shug usually does not have them fully cranked firs time out and the extra furlong her should suit this filly. She is by Street Cry out of a mare that has dropped six winners including four stakes winners, including Sun King ($2.2 million) and Ocean Drive ($804K).
#6 Diverse has finished in the runner up spot in both of her two starts at short odds. She did beat eleven runners in those two second place finishes and should appreciate the extra furlong. She is by Kingmambo out of the stakes winner Foil ($487K).
Live Longshots:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
AQU R3: #2 Wildcane 8/1
AQU R4: #8 Spurrier 8/1
AQU R6: #2 Gullible Gal 8/1
AQU R6: #8 Weekwee 15/1

AQU R8: #5 Bridal Path 12/1
