Padding Your Bankroll: Wednesday October 24

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers. Don't miss Wednesday's report where Michael will keep you up to date with track bias reports for the major circuits.

Today is opening day at Aqueduct. They don't move to the winterized inner track until next month. Today's card may be at the mercy of Mother Nature. There is plenty of rain in the forecast for the area.

We'll make our featured race early in the card, a race on the main track. We'll stick with Keeneland for our Pick 3 play today.

Today's Featured Race of the Day:

AQU Race 3 Clm $35,000 (1:56 et)

#2 The Village Vicar 6/1

#1 Dashboard Drummer / #1a Debussy 3/1

#6 Herecomeshollywood 2/1

#4 Daddy Joe 10/1

Analysis: #2 The Village Vicar made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out versus $25K foes and steps up a notch for his first go for Duggan, who is showing just a 0 for 1 mark first off the claim and is coming off a productive Belmont meeting. Barn was 5 for 17 over past 90 days at Belmont Park.

#1a Debussy was beaten just a nose last out against $25K starter handicap foes in his first start off the claim by Contessa. Trainer is sitting out 15 days for a drug positive and that is why we see his assistant Jackson as the named trainer. Big off track pedigree and a 3-1-2-0 record over off tracks to go along with it.

Wagering

WIN: #2 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 1,2 / 1,2,4,6

TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,4,6 / 1,2,4,6,8

Keeneland Late Pick 3

The Play: Starting in Race 7: $1: 1,5,6,9 / 6,8,10 / 2,10 = $24

KEE Race 7 Alw $52,000N2L (4:15 et)

#9 Ginger Bay, #1 Anna Forever, #6 Pola's Place, #5 Simply Devine

#9 Ginger Bay went gate to wire to break her maiden last out while traveling in the three path most of the way over a poly surface that was favoring outside stalkers and closers. Win was coming off nearly a year layoff. We need speed to be holding a better here for this gal to repeat, but she is in a sharp barn and earned a solid numbers in her maiden score.

#1 Anna Forever makes her first start since February for Motion barn that is 23% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. Ran into Winning Point last out, that filly has now placed in four races, three G2's. She likely will be ready to fire off works at Fair Hill.

KEE Race 8 OClm $80,000N$Y (4:45 et)

#10 Rey Del Sol, #8 Passport, #6 Crown Point

#10 Rey Del Sol goes from turf to poly here and exits a small stake where the gelding finished third behind Purim, who came back to win the G1 Shadwell Mile in his next start on 10/6. The gelding has run pretty well on poly, beating Alw-1 foes at Arlington over the surface on 7/20.

#8 Passport is coming off a sharp win last out against Alw-2 optional claimers going a mile on poly at Turfway. Gelding has plenty of pedigree to handle the stretch out to nine furlongs, by Pulpit out of a Lord At War mare.

KEE Race 9 Clm $7,500 (5:15 et)

#10 Macs Rob Roy, #2 Sampras

#10 Macs Rob Roy was a sharp winner last out against $5K company and steps up a notch in class here. Gelding has turned the corner in two starts since Parker claimed this guy for $4K three back and seems to like the poly stuff.

#2 Sampras was pinched back and bumped at the start and made a mild late run to finish fourth last out. Two back ran seventh in a highly graded race at Arlington that produced four next out winners.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
