Horse Betting – Fairplex Horse Racing

Some horse bettors cry about biases when things don’t go right, but smart bettors use that same bias to make lemonade out of lemons.

We are of course talking about the move from Del Mar to Fairplex for horse racing in Southern California and there is an angle that screams off the page and must be attacked during the next three weeks of racing at Pomona.

And that angle is to isolate runners that were up against it at Del Mar as that Polytrack surface was not particularly kind to speed horses.

Now turn that equation upside down. Winners can come from far back at Fairplex but things have to unfold just right - with a short stretch, if a runner has the lead turning for home and has not been fully extended just yet, his or her chances of winning are tripled.

So let’s looks at some recent faders at Del Mar and try to project them into the charmed circle at the upcoming Fairplex meet - running from September 7 to September 24.

Bettors should pay extra attention when Home Alona shows up. Owned by Goodfella Joe Pesci, this returnee flashed good speed in the Del Mar debut but it was her first start since May. She really didn’t care for the inside slot, and just had nothing left when the real racing began inside the 8th pole.

With a middle post, and not a lot of speed signed up, this daughter of Game Plan will never look back.

If bettors are trying to make that one big score, they could do much worse that following Onza de Oro at Fairplex. This gelding has some stamina issues, but he seems to be figuring it out and his Del Mar debut was his best race ever. He followed it was a pop and stop fade at 77-1.

This is the type of play that can make or break a year. Horse racing bettors have to give this guy a valid long shot look when he shows up in Pomona. Jockey Cedeno, who has been up for the last two races, knows his way around a bullring and players should also think about using this guy in a few slots on a vertical exotic.

Most of us can always appreciate an Awesome Broad, and players have to be very aware of this filly when she shows at Fairplex in the next week or so.

Trained by a break out conditioner named Melody Conlon, who is popping at 29% this year, Broad is consistent, fits at the bottom rung in the maiden ranks in SoCal, and will improve if she moves to a hustling rider like either Martin Garcia or even Mr. Martin Pedroza.

This miss may never look back in her next start and bettors have to wake up and smell the coffee.

One more runner that bettors should keep in mind at Pomona is a colt by Memo named Scandalous. He flat out ran too good to lose in the Del Mar finale when collared very late by a 12-1 shot.

Scandalous fires every time, can control the pace and the outcome at a mile or even a bit beyond.

Good luck and have a pup and a beer on me at Pomona.
