NHL Hockey Betting – The Top Shelf Rankings, Week 4 - BetUS Sportsbook
By Tim Furious
1. Ottawa Senators (8-1) The Senators are off to a rip roaring start behind Dany Heatley and the Jason Spezza, who is proving to be an invaluable set-up man for the Senators. They have one more game for the rest of the month and then get a nice long rest, which will only make the NHL’s best team even better.
This week: Ottawa vs. New Jersey (10/27)
2. Minnesota Wild (7-0-1) Great goaltending gets you to the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Wild have two capable netminders in Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding. Hop on this bandwagon before the oddsmakers do in our NHL futures. With a stifling defense that allows only 1.25 goals against the Wild are proving that they are contenders early on this season.
This week: Minnesota vs. Calgary (10/24), Minnesota vs. Edmonton (10/25)
3. Philadelphia Flyers (6-1) Daniel Briere may be stealing the headlines, but Joffrey Lupul is keying the success of the
Flyers by steadying the second line with Mike Richards. The two have 16 combined points this season and the Flyers only have one loss. They have a stiff test on Saturday against the surprising Boston Bruins.
This week: Philadelphia vs. Florida (10/24), Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay (10/25), Philadelphia vs. Boston (10/27)
4. Detroit Red Wings (6-2-1) Detroit shot themselves in the foot by parking themselves in the penalty box all night, leaving Dominik Hasek with no help at all. Matters are only getting worse since the youth movement in Detroit isn’t maturing fast enough. The Wings have two stiff challenges with the Canucks and San Jose visiting them at Joe Louis Arena this week.
This week: Vancouver vs. Detroit (10/24), San Jose vs. Detroit (10/26)
5. San Jose Sharks (4-3-1) Joe Thornton helped steady the Sharks in a 4-2 win over Vancouver and a 3-0 thrashing of Nashville. Despite the 4-2 loss to Detroit, Thornton had five points in the two wins. The Sharks are starting to get the ball rolling and instilling faith in the betting investors who projected them as the best team in the league.
This week: San Jose vs. Calgary (10/22), San Jose vs. Detroit (10/26), San Jose vs. Columbus (10/27)
6. Carolina Hurricanes (4-1-3) Erik Cole has gone from being a dominant point scorer to an injury-prone let down in a hurry. And this big loss led to two losses last week. They are the busiest team in the league this week with four games against top-15 teams. This will be an early test to see if the Canes can survive without Cole, and if their betting faithful should look elsewhere for now.
This week: Vancouver vs. Carolina (10/22), Buffalo vs. Carolina (10/24), Montreal vs. Carolina (10/26), Carolina vs. New York Islanders (10/27)
7. Boston Bruins (5-2) The Bruins beat Tampa Bay 4-1 and then shutout the New York Rangers behind the fantastic goal tending of Manny Fernandez and Tim Thomas. Nobody gave the Bruins a chance in the preseason and they are proving the experts and oddsmakers wrong (for now). The tilt against Philadelphia will test to see how good these guys really are.
This week: Boston vs. Montreal (10/22), Chicago vs. Boston (10/25), Philadelphia vs. Boston (10/27)
