Golf Odds - Woods Returns for Orlando Tourney
By BetUS Staff
The world’s top player will become an option again for those doing any golf betting this weekend, as Tiger Woods will be part of the field for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida. That’s not good news for the rest of the golf players this weekend, as Woods has looked unbeatable throughout the start of the year.
Tiger’s last triumph came on February 24, when he knocked off Stewart Cink in the final round to claim the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Woods was pegged as the big favorite in that event, and he’s obviously favored to win in Orlando this weekend as well – the BetUS oddsmakers have him listed at just +110 odds to secure the victory.
Woods has won this tournament four times in the past – in four straight years between 2000 and 2003. Since then Chad Campbell (2004), Kenny Perry (2005), Rod Pampling (2006), and Vijay Singh (2007) have hoisted the trophy, and each of them will be in the field this weekend as well. Singh is listed at +2000 odds to repeat as the champ, with Pampling at +5500, Campbell at +6000, and Perry at +6000 to get the Orlando victory.
Sean O’Hair shot a 2-under 69 to win the Tiger-free PODS Championship over the weekend, and he’s pegged at +5500 odds to take a second consecutive tournament this Sunday. O’Hair finished two strokes ahead of six other golfers in the Tampa event – John Senden, Ryuji Imada, George McNeill, Troy Matteson, Stewart Cink, and Billy Mayfair. Cink shot a 3-over 74 in the final round to fall out of contention last weekend.
Phil Mickelson also skipped the PODS Championship last week, but he’ll return to action for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Mickelson, who won the Northern Trust Open back in February, is listed behind Woods at +1000 odds to win in Orlando. If Lefty can secure the victory it will be his second at the event – he also grabbed the trophy in 1997.
Other top contenders and their odds to win this week include Luke Donald (+2000), Stuart Appleby (+3500), Jim Furyk (+4000), Sergio Garcia (+4000), and Zach Johnson (+5000). Brandt Snedeker and Stephen Ames are amongst a group of golfers at +6000.
Meanwhile, the European Tour will stage an event in South Korea for the first time ever this week – the Ballantines Championship at Pinx Golf Club on Jeju Island. K.J. Choi and Padraig Harrington are pegged as the top contenders to win that inaugural tournament, with Choi at +500 odds to come out on top, and Harrington back at +550.
Anthony Kim has been listed at +2000 odds to win in Korea, with each of Johan Edfors, Jyoti Randhawa, Graeme McDowell, and Yong-Eun Yang at +2500 odds. Jeev Milkha Singh, Shingo Katayama, and Raphael Jacquelin are all at +3000, with Thomas Bjorn and Daniel Vancsik at +3500, and Chris DiMarco farther behind that grouping at +4500.
After playing in Orlando and South Korea this weekend, the PGA Tour and the European Tour will meet next week for the WGC-CA Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami. Woods won that tournament last season, and pocketed $1.35 million.
