Golf Betting - McDonald’s LPGA Championship Odds
By Adam Eve
The PGA Tour still has a week to go before they stage the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, but there’s a major golf event on tap for fans of the LPGA Tour this week.
Golf’s top women will be taking to Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland this week in the McDonald’s LPGA Championship. The major event has a total purse of $2,000,000 this season, and there will be two three-time champions in this year’s field.
The first is Se Ri Pak, who won this tournament last year over Karrie Webb in a one-hole playoff. Pak picked up $270,000 for that victory. The South Korean also won this event at DuPont Country Club in both 1998 and 2002, earning $195,000 and $225,000 for finishing in first place those years. At BetUS.com, Pak is at +3000 to win this week.
Sorenstam had her streak of three consecutive LPGA Championship titles snapped by Pak in 2006. Sorenstam picked up cheques of $240,000, $240,000, and $270,000 for her wins in this tournament from 2003 to 2005. The Swede just returned to the tour last week after missing almost two months with a back/neck injury. She’s at +450 this week.
Juli Inkster and Laura Davies are both two-time winners of the LPGA Championship, picking up their victories before the Pak-Sorenstam run began at the start of the decade. Inkster was crowned the champ in both 1999 and 2000, earning $210,000 for each of those performances. Davies also won this event two straight years, in 1994 and 1995 (earning $165,000 and $180,000). Inkster is at +3000, with Davies back at +9000.
Australian Karrie Webb is pegged at +1600 odds to win this major golf championship. Webb received a cheque for $225,000 for her victory in this event in the 2001 season.
However, the oddsmakers at BetUS.com have listed Lorena Ochoa as the +250 favorite to earn a victory in the McDonald’s LPGA Championship this year.
Ochoa is the current leader of the LPGA’s money list by a large margin, with over $1.2 million in winnings in 2007. By comparison, second-place Suzann Pettersen has won just over $700,000 so far this season. Pettersen is farther down the odds list for this week, at +3000 right now.
Other golfers with high odds to walk away with the title on Sunday are Paula Creamer (+1200), Cristie Kerr (+1600), Mi Hyun Kim (+2200), Young Kim (+3000), Sarah Lee (+3000), and Ai Miyazato (+3000). Here are the rest of the top odds to get the victory.

Michelle Wie finished in a tie for fifth place in the LPGA Championship last season, but her sore wrist could affect her play this weekend. Wie withdrew from last week’s tournament in South Carolina after just 16 shaky holes, citing the injury; she had been out with the ailment since January. However, she’s still currently listed as being in the field for the event at Bulle Rock Golf Course this week, and she’s listed at +3500 to win.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour will be staging the Stanford St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis this weekend, while the golfers of the European Tour will be participating in the BC-CA Golf Open at Fontana Golf Club in Austria.
