Sports Betting News - Rose’s Rant

So there you have it folks. Two teams survived their regular and post-season schedules to make it to Glendale, AZ where both will look to hoist the Lombardi Trophy after Super Bowl XLII. One comes in with a majestical 18-0 SU run, while the other has won 10 games in a row on the road. Sure, New England’s non-covering win against the Chargers left a ton to be desired for an AFC Championship Game, but hopefully the two week layoff will have these Pats playing the unbelievable version of ball they played throughout the first two months of the regular season. Head Coach Bill Belichick’s club is quite unlike any I’ve seen for quite some time. They can win either by dominating you from the opening kick, or they can plod and ploy for 48 minutes much like they did against San Diego and still pull out the victory.

The last impressive victory the Pats put forth came on December 9th when they held the Pittsburgh Steelers scoreless in the second half and cruised to the solid 34-13 home win and cover. There’s no doubt this club has run out of some steam over the last six weeks, but I’ve got a funny feeling they’ll head into SB XLII with their batteries recharged and look like the team we saw throughout the first two months of the season.

That being said, New England will go down in history as the most dominating football team ever if indeed they win the Super Bowl. The victory will complete their epic journey of putting forth an undefeated campaign, but I’m still not buying it. As a whole, I really feel the NFL is down and the Patriots were able to take advantage of it. The AFC East was a flat out joke this year. The Dolphins, Jets, and Bills put forth a combined mark of 12-36 this year and none of them even put a mild scare into the Pats this season. I can honestly say that this club wouldn’t even come under consideration for the most dominant team ever if huddled at a table with a bunch of my buddies at a local watering hole. I’d much rather stake my chips with one of the Steelers clubs from the 70’s, or maybe the Chicago Bears 0f ’85. Heck, I might even back one of Bill Walsh’s 49’ers clubs before I backed this year’s version of the Patriots. They might have one of the best defenses on paper and they might boast an offense that seemingly does whatever it wants against any and all opposition, but I seriously have to question the caliber of the Pats opponents as a whole this season before proclaiming them the best ever.

It’s going to be a very tough decision for me come Sunday, February 3rd. Do I back the underdog Giants who as of now is already receiving a lofty 13.5-points, or do I lay the chalk with the Pats and hope they can once and for all slam the door in the faces of the ’72 Dolphins whose pompous faces and arrogant sound bytes will never have to be seen or heard again? Decisions, decisions…

Oh, and Junior Seau. I love you and all since you’ve proven to be a warrior in this league for almost 20 years, but don’t be talking trash about my Bears from ’85. Your “D” isn’t even worthy of washing their jock straps let alone being mentioned in the same breath. Yeah, they recorded the Super Bowl Shuffle a month before the game even took place, but that’s only because nobody was getting in the way of the Monsters from the Midway. Go out and win this last game, and then I’ll listen to you talk about my Bears with a little more interest.
