NFL Betting Week 15 Action – Green Bay at St. Louis

Although 12.5 points may seem like a lot for any team to cover, especially on the road, these Green Bay Packers have been lining the pockets of their football betting backers almost without fail for over a year now. Before the game two weeks ago in Dallas, where they failed to cover and lost the game, the Packers had not lost ATS since losing 24-10 in Buffalo on November 5th, 2006, a stretch of nine straight road games. Now that is impressive.

Green Bay Packers –12.5 at St. Louis Rams +12.5

On the opposite side of the spectrum are the St. Louis Rams. One of the most disappointing teams of this 2007 NFL betting season, the Rams have failed to cover at home in all but three of their past 11 games.

This home game is not looking very promising for the rams to turn things around. The Packers, whose running game is not highly ranked due to the flawed way in which the NFL stats people rank things (based solely on yardage), has been doing great in the final half of the season. Led by Ryan Grant, the Packers have found new life and a method of providing some relief for the pass attack. Grant, amazingly, could gain 1,000 yards on the season even though he had just six carries until Week 8. Meanwhile, the Rams are ranked just 21st at stopping the run.

In the passing game, Brett Favre is surpassing the numbers he put up in his MVP years. This, in his 17th season, is beyond reproach and a big reason why he has been recently named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. His abilities have quickly advanced the play of his mostly young receiving corps, many of whom were not even in college when Brett was winning Super Bowls. Led by Donald Driver, who plays as if he’d never even seen a defender on the field before, the receivers on this team feed off the enthusiasm that Favre exudes on and off the field.

If the Rams are to have any chance in this game at all, Steven Jackson will have to be successful early and they will have to put points on the board as soon and as often as they can. If the Pack can slow him down, the Rams will be forced to play catch up through the air. With the injuries they are suffering at the quarterback position, Green bay will be in position for another rout.
