NFL Betting Odds: Cincinnati Home Spells Doom For Bengals
By D.S. Williamson
Before this season the main question was whether or not the Cincinnati Bengals could put together a defense that matched their potent offense.
Six weeks into the season and, you guessed it, the question still is whether or not the Cincinnati Bengals can put together a defense that matches their potent offense.
Well, the answer should be obvious - - no. The Bengals definitely can’t. The Bengals give up an incredible amount of points to every team they play and after crunching the numbers a terrific trend has emerged that spells doom for the Bengals maybe ever covering a spread at home again - - okay, at least the rest of this year.
Football Betting Trend: The Cincinnati Bengals are 1 – 11 against the point spread at home when the total is 42 – 49 points.
It’s over for the Bengals. Forget about them covering a single game, or beating a single spread, at home for the rest of their games.
Starting this weekend, the Bengals get to NOT cover the BetUS – 6.5 against the spread they are giving to the New York Jets.
The reason for the Bengals’ problem is simple, actually. They can’t play defense. So, in order to win games they try to run up the score, but there’s a problem with doing that. Their defense gets tired much quicker than their opponent’s. That means that in the fourth quarter, when the Bengals’ D has to step it up, it can’t. There isn’t a single player on the Bengals’ D that can even be considered a Pro Bowler.
Run with the Bengals and they fold like the asthmatic child in kindergarten who can’t get his legs moving fast enough to get away from the flying red ball. To make things even more enticing for NFL bettors regarding this trend is the presence of Carson Palmer, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, and Ocho Cinco.
Because of those three, the Bengals have to try and score. It’s impossible for this team to slow things down. They score fast. Their opponents score fast. And, then, their opponents score last in the fourth quarter.
Here are the rest of the Bengals’ home opponents. I will be very surprised if this team covers or beats a single BetUS spread in any of these games.
10/28/2007 – Pittsburgh Steelers
11/18/2007 – Arizona Cardinals
11/25/2007 – Tennessee Titans
12/09/2007 – St. Louis Rams
12/23/2007 – Cleveland Browns
There are still plenty of opportunities out there for NFL bettors to make money betting against the Cincinnati Bengals.
