Wager On XLII - Heads or Tails?

By far, Super Bowl XLII will be the most watched and wagered on football game of the season in North America and abroad. Gamblers from around the globe will bet on Super Bowl XLII with a majority of money going on the sides and totals.

But the big event annually creates a wide variety of props and that includes the coin toss, which can and will prove we are all degenerates in one form or fashion. But afterall, this is about gambling, right?

Add in the fact it's the Super Bowl, which makes for the perfect opportunity to brag to your football betting buddies you had the balls to bet on the flip, and wagering on the coin toss doesn't become that bad of an idea. As well, it's a lock, it's the strongest 50/50 wager on the board in terms of odds. Who said there's no guarantees or locks in this business?

For the preparation of the the big game, the chosen away team traditionally gets to call the coin toss to be able to determine which team will kickoff and which team will receive. This year, the New York Giants get to call it. The NFC have won the last 10 coin flips. There's a strong Super Bowl betting trend for you.

Overall, in the history of the Super Bowl the NFC has won the coin toss twenty seven times, compared to fourteen times for the AFC. The team winning the toss has lost the game for the last four years, and 9 times in the last 11 years.

In the last eleven Super Bowls heads has prevailed in 7-of-11 tosses. The last seven flips has yielded five heads.

The NFL does not allow the team that wins the coin toss to defer their choice to the second half. That is why, in the 42-year history of the Super Bowl, every team that has won the coin toss has elected to receive the opening kickoff. The team to score first in a Super Bowl wins 68% of the times.

For the first eleven Super Bowls, game officials handled the pre-game coin toss. Since that time, a series of honorary coin flippers have been appointed each year. Four times in the last six years a quarterback has made the toss - Roger Staubach, Y.A. Tittle, Tom Brady and Dan Marino last year.

Sports gamblers can certainly make a case that selecting winners against the spread is like tossing a coin. Of course, there's luck involved, so why not call it...heads or tails? The gratification can be instant, and it can provide you extra funds to bet at halftime or throughout the game on live wagering which will be offered.

If you just can't pull the trigger on the toss, or let the fact be known we all have degenerates genes in our family tree, try other props. The Super Bowl generates more props then anyother sporting event in North America by far.

In fact, it's easy to be intimidated or overwhelmed by the enormous amount of props listed for the many different categories.

Take your time and glance through them all, and odds are you'll find something that'll build your bankroll.

We also have NFL props on halftime activities actually making the seemingly never ending break worth watching, as legendary rocker Tom Petty takes center stage.

Running down a dream is a gambler's goal by selecting a winner. The waiting is always exciting and even the losers would agree. But hopefully you can tell your friends you got lucky during Super Bowl XLII or scored with an American girl.

What if Petty forgets the cameras are rolling and he fires one up during the halftime show. Well, at odds of +2500 of him doing so, he won't be the only one learnin to fly, your bankroll will become high too!

If he starts free fallin' and has a wardrobe malfunction, you could cash in on odds of +10000. If Petty decides to streak during the game or halftime show, we'll all be singing don't do me like that. But you'd also be singing I won't back down all the way to the bank with +50000 odds of him doing so. The ancient rocker may take the more traditional route of smashing a guitar on stage (+5000) or curse during his performance (+8000).

Think you know what song Petty will open with? If you do but don't wager on it, you may get asked more than once: I need to know why you didn't bet on it? So don't miss out on any of the great halftime or game props and enjoy the show. Of course, there will be second half Super Bowl XLII wagering.
