NFL Playoff Betting – Chargers Take Out Titans

by Russell Edward

It is very tough to believe that the Tennessee Titans will be able to even stay close in this road playoff game against one of the hottest teams in the NFL over the second half of the season, even if that team does have Norv Turner as its head coach. NFL football betting oddsmakers have raised the line to 9.5 points in favor of the home team Chargers. Even that does not properly account for the losses and deficiencies this Tennessee team has.

Tennessee Titans +9.5 at San Diego Chargers –9.5

The fact that the Titans would start Vince Young - who gives them less of a chance of winning the game than backup quarterback Kerry Collins – if he is even remotely healthy enough is one thing. The fact that two of the top three receivers on this pass-inhibited team to begin with have been placed on injured reserve in the past few days means that whoever is behind center now has a grand total of Justin Gage to throw to. Who you think the Chargers will cover? They won’t even need to double-team him.

NFL Wild Card Playoff: Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. EST

With tight end Bo Scaife out with a lacerated liver and wide receiver Roydell Williams out with a broken ankle, the Titans will have to rely on their running game to have any chance in San Diego. With the fifth-ranked running game to lean back on, it is the only chance they have. The problem with this is that none of their backs are the type to help much in the passing game, rendering much of the possible game plan one-dimensional.

Another thing that could go in Tennessee’s favor is the bad blood between these two teams. Not that Albert Haynesworth will be able to stomp on someone’s head again like he use to, but when there is heat in a battle, you never know how it could negatively affect some players’ ability to keep their mind on the game. More than one game has turned on a poor penalty by someone whose discipline just disappeared for a few seconds.

If you are going to bet on the NFL playoffs, this game is not too hard to decide on whom to take. The Chargers are still mad about losing last year to the Patriots and they are not about to let a weakened team with no real quarterback come into their house and do much at all. Look for the Chargers to be the ones doing the stomping this Sunday.
