NFL Betting – Ravens Can Beat the Bills
By Russell Edward
The Baltimore Ravens are surprising no one who bets on football this year. With a very average offense led by the warrior Steve McNair and a defense that still scares the bejeezuz out of many an opponent, they sit at 4-2. After six weeks, Baltimore is ranked 19th in offense and 4th in defense.
These two played last season and Baltimore won 19-7 at home on New Year’s Eve, leaving the Ravens with a first week bye in the playoffs and leaving Buffalo searching for answers.
Baltimore Ravens –3.5 at Buffalo Bills +3.5
The Ravens biggest strength is their run defense, which is allowing less than 67 yards per game so far, with just one rushing touchdown allowed. The fact that the Ravens rank as high as 14th in the NFL in passing offense either shows why some stats are meaningless, or that there is a severe lack of decent quarterbacks in the game today. Not that McNair hasn’t been a decent quarterback for this club, just that he has long since passed his time of greatness; now, he has to simply try to manage games. This he does well.
Their weakness is a lack of explosiveness on any side of the ball, at any point in time, combined with a coach who sometimes seems to forget all about clocks and time outs and the little things that matter. In the home playoff game against the Colts last year, Brain Billick made some horrible calls and basically handed the game to the Colts. It is hard to trust him.
It really should not be too hard for the Ravens to win this one on the road in Buffalo. The Bills only put up three offensive points in their wild loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and the Ravens have a much better overall defense than Dallas, although their offense is, of course, much weaker. This all leads me to believe the score will be somewhat similar to the last game these two played, except maybe subtract the touchdown from Buffalo’s score and give them a field goal or two.
Don’t buy into the Bills in this game because of the score of their last game. The Ravens will not let the Bills special teams beat them. Keep this in mind when you bet on the NFL this weekend.
