NFL Betting – Patriots Spread Wide

In normal years under normal sports betting circumstances, an 18-points spread is something to shy away from. This season, however, it is not. The Patriots have beaten their six opponents this season by a total of 138 points. That is exactly ten points more than the Dolphins have scored in total.

New England Patriots –18 at Miami Dolphins +18

Trying to come up with a reason why the Pats, who are not only 6-0 straight up, but also 6-0 against the spread, won’t cover 24 points, much less 18 against the Dolphins, is an exercise in futility. Where is the magic that the Dolphins are hiding that can stop this Patriots offense that has scored in every quarter but one going back to last season?

There is no magic, but there is the fact the Brady, historically, seems to have trouble in Miami, having lost three of the five games he has played there. In 2004, the patriots went into Miami as prohibitive ten point faves and ended up losing 29-28.

This season, however, much seems to be different, as the combination of Brady, Moss and Welker seems to be unstoppable. There is also the fact that the Dolphins just traded away their only aerial threat, Chris Chambers, and have Cleo Lemon as their quarterback. Now, Lemon did fine last week, but this is the second-ranked defense in the league. If Pittsburgh had played against nearly as tough of opponents as New England, the chances are very likely that the Pats would have the top-rated defense as well as the best offense in the NFL.

All spoken, it seems very likely that Miami, having given up on this season, will put up very little fight this Sunday. That the Dolphins shut them out last year 21-0 will still be fresh in the minds of Brady and Belichick, too. As if there was any need for another reason to show up their divisional rivals, there is a bit of revenge coming down the pipes towards Dolphins Stadium.
