Football Betting – Bears to Maul Eagles?

Who would have thought that, going into Week 7 of the NFL betting season, the Bears would be ranked 28th in offense and 27th in defense? Didn’t this team make the Super Bowl last year? So long ago…

In the last meeting between these two, Philly won 19-9 in Chicago back in 2004. At that time, Philly was on their way to a Super Bowl loss, while the Bears were struggling. Now they are both struggling and this is a very important game for both teams if they want to make the playoffs this year. Can the Bears win this road game?

Chicago Bears +5.5 at Philadelphia Eagles –5.5

Devin Hester is really the only strong point on this Chicago squad so far this season. If the team just snapped the ball straight to Hester, it seems like they might be in a better position that they are now. He couldn’t do worse at the quarterbacking position that what they’ve had so far, at least. Actually, Brian Griese, although a stop-gap measure for now, has picked up on this offense and should be a steady, if not very good, signal-caller.

Everyone except the Bears front office people, it seems, expected this offense to stink up the joint this season. It was not the smartest of moves to keep Benson as a running back, while getting rid of Jones. Benson is wishy-washy. Jones is a hammer. Now, their running game is paltry just like their passing game, which means the Bears now have absolutely nothing with which to keep defenses honest or scared. They might get back on track next year, though, as Chicago is a very up and down team.

For the Bears to win, they will need Philadelphia, who also seem to be very up and down this season, to have one of their down games. After watching both these teams play a few times this season, it is a coin toss as to which one will show up – for both of them. And when that is the case, take the 5.5 bonus points and take the Bears in what should be a close one.
