Entertainment Betting - American Idol – 4 Hopeful Idols
By Mike Rose
The last couple of online entertainment betting weeks have taken away some of the profits we made earlier in the show, but we’ll continue to press on as the David vs. David battle looks to only be a couple weeks away. With Brooke White getting voted off last week, the next two weeks will decide the fates of both Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado. Neither have the talent or fan base to overcome the David’s, but it’s up to me to figure out which of them goes first so readers of this weekly piece can continue to reap the rewards. The elimination with four to go saw Chris Daughtry get voted off when nobody thought it was possible a couple seasons ago, but don’t look for either of the big favorites to get voted off after tonight’s broadcast.
Without further ado, let’s see how our final four performed…
The only chalk left in the competition, David Cook, kicked the show off with a karaoke-ish rendition of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like The Wolf”. Randy thought it was just ok, while Paula said his performance left her hungry. Hungry like what Paula? Anyway, Simon thought it was a bit copycat, but probably good enough to get him through to the next round. He then tackled “Baba O’Riley” for his second act. I thought it was pretty decent, but I was left wanting more. Randy stated that was the David we’ve grown to love, while Paula wanted more as well. Simon welcomed David back to the competition after he thought his first performance was a bit sub par. Cook’s proven to be the most innovative of the contestants, and that will allow him to return for next weeks show. He doesn’t have the voice of David Archuleta, but his creativity and bravado now have him the favorite (-200) to win the competition. This tall chalk isn’t going anywhere this week.
Syesha Mercado is now the lone female in the competition after Brooke White was handed her walking papers last week. She’s really changed her tune the last couple of weeks, and that’s allowed her to stick. She’s tackled all the divas throughout the competition, but she might have overstepped her bounds last night when she tried to do Tina Turner in her first act. It wasn’t even close to being as powerful as Turner’s, but you have to appreciate the effort she exerted. Randy felt she was in the zone, while Paula thought she looked like a star. However, Simon rained on the parade once again calling it a shrieky Tina Turner impersonation. Her next song caused a bit of controversy amongst the judges. Her rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come” just didn’t do it for Randy. He thought she oversang it, but Paula raved calling her a superstar again. Simon said he agreed with Paula and went out of his way to let Randy know he was incorrect in his observations. Syesha was the favorite to go last week, and she finds herself in that role once again this time around (-140). However, I think her new attitude and gusto on stage will allow her to move on to take on the David’s in the semi-finals. It also doesn’t hurt that she’s drop dead gorgeous.
How Jason Castro has made it this far is beyond me! We’ve taken flyers on him to get booted the last couple weeks, but the guy just keeps hanging around like Mike McDermott in the movie “Rounders”. I just don’t get it, but he’s got to be the one to go after putting forth a pair of annoying performances last night. He tried to tackle Bob Marley in his first song and failed, then forgot the lyrics to “Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan. Not the best 1-2 punch Castro could have put forth, but it’s expected now and his teenybopper fan base won’t be enough to save him tonight. That said, our selection for the week is Castro, who is a must buy at +160 to get eliminated.
There’s really no need to delve deep into David Archuleta’s performances as he blew the competition away tonight with his versions of “Stand By Me” and “Love Me Tender”. David will sail through to the next round. Look for him to become the favorite once again when
american idol betting odds are released next week after falling to a +120 underdog before Tuesday’s broadcast.
Music chosen from the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame allowed us all to listen to some very familiar songs by the four remaining competitors. Some of the performances were great, while others, not so great. There have been some very surprising dismissals the last couple weeks, but this one’s clear as day. If Jason Castro is not voted off tomorrow night, something fishy is going on. Grab Castro at +160 till the cows come home!!!
