Arkansas beat Florida International 58-10 last weekend, going over the 58-point over/under and covering the 41-point spread.
HEAD-TO-HEAD college football betting trends:
* ARKANSAS has covered five of the last six meetings
* ARKANSAS has covered four of the last six meetings at home
* The visitor has covered four of the last five meetings
* Four of the last six meetings have gone under the total
LAST MEETING: 11/4/06 - Arkansas won 26-20 at South Carolina, covering as a 2.5-point road favorite. The Razorbacks had a 495-340 yardage edge in that one, as Darren McFadden had 219 yards rushing.
ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA:
The Good News -- After making a brief appearance in the top 10 of the BCS, South Carolina still clings to a #23 ranking in the AP poll and #25 in the USA Today poll. The Gamecocks are holding opponents to 17.8 ppg, 16th best in the country. They are also ranked second in pass defense, giving up 153.7 ypg on less than 51% completions. QB Blake Mitchell went 31 of 45 for 290 yards in leading a furious comeback against Tennessee that pushed the game into OT, and he will start here.
The Bad News -- South Carolina has only mustered 121 rushing yards a game, 94th in the nation. The offensive line has surrendered 27 sacks.
SOUTH CAROLINA TRENDS:
* SC is 9-1-1 ATS in its last 11 road games
* SC is 8-3 SU in those last 11 road games
* SC has played five unders in its last six road games
* SC is 11-1-1 ATS as the visitor in conference revenge situations
* SC has played six of its eight games under the total in 2007
ABOUT ARKANSAS:
The Good News -- The Razorbacks, who score over 40 points a game, are third in the nation in rushing offense, tallying 287.6 yards a game. Darren McFadden, once the Heisman front-runner, has gained 993 yards on 5.3 yards a carry. His backfield mate, Felix Jones, has 863 yards on an eye-popping 8.8 yards an attempt. The Hogs also stand first in the nation in pass efficiency defense, permitting less than 42% completions by opposing QB's.
The Bad News -- QB Casey Dick is a liability, throwing for only 979 yards in eight games. He suffered a concussion against FIU and could lose some playing time to backup Nathan Emert.
ARKANSAS TRENDS:
* ARK has won 10 of its last 14 home games SU
* ARK has played five of seven posted games under the total
* ARK is 4-8 ATS in its last 12 home games
THE BOTTOM LINE: You've got to respect the ability of South Carolina to cover on the road, but there are some positives about the Razorbacks. McFadden's rib injuries aren't bothering him as much as they were earlier in the year; wide receiver Marcus Monk is back in the lineup and should be a threat; Emert's performance may give them another way to turn if Dick falters or can't go, and the defense has allowed a total of 49 points in the last five games. South Carolina QB Blake Mitchell will be throwing into a secondary that offers more resistance than he encountered last week, and Arkansas ought to find some room moving on the ground. Don't forget the multiple talents possessed by both McFadden and Felix Jones. Scheduling plays an advantage too, as Arkansas had a virtual breather against FIU last week, while SC comes off the emotionally-draining OT loss and has to travel again. This shifts the edge over to Arkansas, the four-point favorite in the BetUS college football betting odds.
