NCAA Football Betting – AP Rankings, Week 7
By Tim Furious
Another weekend of absolute insanity has the nation buzzing. LSU lost. California lost. The BCS standings were released.
The Boston College Eagles and the South Florida Bulls are in the top-5. And a familiar face returns to the top-25 in this week’s AP Rankings. Keep an eye on the schedule as you bet your hard earned betting money in our NCAA Football futures on the potential contenders for the BCS Championship.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0)
The undefeated Buckeyes continue to rampage in to the national title scene behind a ferocious and stout defense that held Kent State to a field goal in a 48-3 rout. Their next five tests are all against teams that have winning records, beginning with the Spartans this weekend. The Buckeyes ease of schedule will be negated since all the big names in the nation have suffered losses. Monitor this situation as it develops, but Tressel’s second shot at the BCS Title in two years is not a far stretch.
Next game: Michigan State vs. Ohio State (-7.5)
2. South Florida Bulls (6-0)
Nothing shows how zany this season has gone than the Bulls sitting right here at number two. For those betting investors that remained faithful to the Bulls (when nobody else was), they have been happily rewarded. South Florida is 3-1 ATS and travel to Jersey as road favorites against a Rutgers team that loves to topple pretenders (read: Louisville last year). This will be a massive test for these upstarts.
Next game: South Florida (-2.5) vs. Rutgers
3. Boston College Eagles (7-0)
Matt Ryan threw for 291 yards and two scores, with one pick, as he continues to lobby for the Heisman Trophy. Meanwhile, his undefeated Eagles remain in the fight for the BCS title game. The Eagles have been fortunate to play with a lax schedule, and are even luckier to have a bye week heading in to a stiff challenge on the road against Virginia Tech in two weeks.
Next game: BYE WEEK
4. Oklahoma Sooners (6-1)
The Sooners fourth ranked offense has steadily propelled them up the rankings, despite having freshman quarterback Sam Bradford at the helm. The offense is chugging along with another 40-point performance, but their defense has to tighten things up. Bradford won’t always be able to provide them with massive leads, especially with the pressure and expectations mounting exponentially.
Next game: Oklahoma Sooners (-28) vs. Iowa State
5. LSU Tigers (6-1)
Wow. Wow. Wow. What an unbelievable game against Kentucky! The team that was supposedly the only sane hope in a nation of insanity fell in an overtime nail-biter. And what a fall it was. The Tigers plummeted from the top of the mountain to fifth in the AP rankings, although the newly released BCS standings are still showing them love at fourth. The tilt against former coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide has to have the Tigers betting faithful quivering with concern to their national title hopes.
Next game: Auburn vs. LSU (-10.5)
6. South Carolina Gamecocks (6-1)
The Gamecocks are sitting pretty at sixth, but the next moth is going to reveal whether Steve Spurrier’s boys are ready for the big time, or are still a work in progress. Their game against Vanderbilt will begin a tough chunk of schedule which includes clashes against Florida and Arkansas.
Next game: Vanderbilt vs. South Carolina (-13)
7. Oregon Ducks (5-1)
The Ducks fifth ranked offense is soaring along with the Ducks BCS hopes. They decimated Washington State 53-7, which included 40 unanswered, first-half points. But injuries may wound these Ducks beyond repair. Cameron Colvin and Jeremiah Johnson are out for the rest of the year, but their betting faithful in this offense busting the spread. Oregon is 5-1 ATS.
Next game: Oregon (-11) vs. Washington
THE CLIMBERS
8. Kentucky Wildcats (6-1)
Just when you think that Andrew Woodson’s prime time performance against the Gamecocks would end Kentucky’s chances in the BCS polls, the Wildcats toppled the feared LSU Tigers in overtime. Woodson threw for 250 yards and piled up four touchdowns in the win. Their insanely difficult schedule continues as they host the Florida Gators as home dogs.
Next game: Florida (-7) vs. Kentucky
24. Michigan Wolverines (5-2)
Look who is back! The Wolverines shredded Purdue 48-21 in The Big House. The scary thing? They did without Mike Hart in the second half. Hart was on pace for a monster game, getting 21 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns that built a 31-7 lead at halftime. Michigan’s glaring losses at the beginning of the season will keep them out of consideration. But crazier things have happened, and this season is chalk full of insanity.
Next game: Michigan (-3) vs. Illinois
