College Football Betting Trends - Oklahoma Sooners ATS
By D. S. Williamson
I'm not going to say that I wasn't surprised about Oklahoma's loss to Colorado. I was as close to making Oklahoma the pick of the week last Saturday – the same as everybody else in the College football betting nation. The Sooners were on fire and having watched Colorado games this year, I knew that the Buffaloes really aren't a very good team.
Okay, so the Sooners laid an egg in the second half. No worries. They did so, in part, because of this game. Oklahoma has only one team to beat every year and it's the team they play this weekend - - the Texas Longhorns.
Once the Sooners beat the Longhorns, the Big 12 Conference is pretty much assured. They know this. The rest of the Big 12 knows this.
Oklahoma is still a very, very good football team. And, under the guidance of Bob Stoops, there is no question that they will bounce back from that stinging loss to the Buffaloes and turn the Red River Battle into a Longhorn bloodbath.
First, before taking a look at the trend, let's just be honest about the Texas Longhorns. They just don't have it this year. There are no playmakers on their defense, their offense just doesn't appear up to snuff, and on special teams they are below average.
They just aren't very good in any phase of the game - - compared to the major programs like USC, LSU and Oklahoma. That means that the Sooners should squash them. Now, I'm not saying that they can't keep this weekends game close…in the first half. After all, this Texas team will play with fire in front of their home crowd just like every college football team does, but come the second half, when the cream should rise in this emotionally charged game, the Sooners should prevail.
The trends also support a Sooner victory.
Trends – Oklahoma is 9 – 2 against the spread in their last 11 road games. They are also 16-5-1 against the spread in their last 22 games overall.
Believe it or not, what really supports the above trends is Oklahoma's loss to Colorado last Saturday. Why? Because if they had covered, like they were on their way to doing with a 24 to 7 lead, then the above trends would have been 10 – 1 in their last 11 road games and 17-4-1 in their last 22 games overall. Wow. That's pretty powerful.
So, last week Oklahoma fell off the "trend wagon". No worries, the percentages say that they get back onto the trend wagon this weekend and bury the Texas Longhorns.
The BetUS college football line in the Red River Battle is Oklahoma –11.5 against the spread. Take Oklahoma. The Sooners should win by at least 17 points.
