College Football Betting - Teams to Watch

by DS Williamson

After week four in the college football season, there are some truths that have to be pointed out!  We need to take a look at which teams are on a roll and which might be a tough bet against future spread.  Yep, that’s what us college football bettors need!

Let’s re-cap the BCS Championship caliber teams, their BCS chances and their against the spread chances.

USC rolled again versus a Washington State team that some had as a surprise team in the Pac-10.  That probably won’t happen with Oregon and ASU turning in terrific come from behind wins.  Expect the Trojans to keep winning, however.

BCS Championship Chances:  Excellent.  They won’t lose a game this year and should beat whomever they face in the BCS Championship game by 14 points or more.  Yes, they are that good.

Against the Spread Chances:  Okay.  Because USC runs up the score so quickly in games in the first half, Coach Pete Carroll tends to call off the dogs in the second half.  That allows teams to score on the Trojans and get to within the ridiculous against the spread number.  It’s just tough to know which way USC games are going.

This Weekend:  The BetUS line for USC is  -21.5 against a Washington Huskies team who played UCLA tough.  USC actually does better in games where they are expected to not do as well.  Still, the line is high and USC could be up 42 to 3 at half, Carroll could call off the dogs, and USC could simply win by 17 points or so.

LSUhad their hands full versus South Carolina and did not cover for the first time this year.  They have the best defense in the nation, but their offense is hot or cold and they had to use a trick play in order to break the game open versus the Gamecocks early.  LSU is still a very, very good team but the truth is that they play in a conference that is just too tough.

BCS Championship Chances:  Good.  LSU is the only team in the SEC who could go undefeated.  Could is an important word to remember.

Against the Spread Chances:  Okay.  Because LSU was so awesome in the first three weeks of the season, expect gigantic spreads to continue the entire year.  When LSU gets into hard-core SEC play they may or may not cover.

This Weekend:  LSU gets a break versus Tulane before really getting into their SEC schedule.  The BetUS line is – 41 against the spread for LSU.  No worries.  The Tigers have covered their last 10 straight games versus non-conference opponents.

TheOklahoma Sooners man-handled Tulsa and covered a ridiculous against the spread line of –23.5 by beating the Golden Hurricanes 62 to 21.  Wow.  Oklahoma has covered every game so far this year and is without a doubt the best team in the Big 12.

BCS Championship Chances:  Excellent.  They will beat every team in the Big 12 and roll into the BCS Championship Game after LSU and Florida lose a game and West Virginia doesn’t get there due to their easy schedule.

Against the Spread Chances:  Excellent.  There is no spread to large for this team to cover because they’re playing cream-puffs.  They have an unbelievable offense and a better than expected defense.

This Weekend:  Oklahoma gets to show how awesome they are by crushing the BetUS against the spread line of -24.5 versus the Colorado Buffaloes.

Florida escaped a tough game versus Ole Miss.  The thing to worry about is Florida’s defense.  It looks soft.  Also, can quarterback Tim Tebow last the entire year while throwing his body around like a bag of peanuts in the stands?

BCS Championship Chances:  Not very good.  If Tebow continues playing the way he has and doesn’t get injured, then they have an okay chance.  If Tebow gets injured, then they have no chance at all.  They play in the SEC and the thinking here is that they will stumble along the road somewhere.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have done what they can against the teams on their schedule.  They have a good enough offense to challenge almost any team in college football, but, let’s be honest, Louisville turning out to be a bum does them no favors and Rutgers is still Rutgers.

BCS Championship Chances:  None.  Sorry West Virginia but your strength of schedule is just horrible and you might lose that game to Rutgers or this weekend’s game versus South Florida.  Also, Oklahoma is not going to lose and USC is not going to lose and LSU or Florida will sneak in with one loss before you sneak in with no losses.

Against the Spread Chances:  Very good.  West Virginia, like Oklahoma plays cream-puffs.  So, they cover a lot of games.  They will especially have to run up the score because their strength of schedule is so weak.

This Weekend:  Did I say very good?  Maybe I should downgrade that.  West Virginia has a chance to lose this weekend against a very tough South Florida team.  South Florida is home and they have a better defense than any other team West Virginia has faced.  They also play pretty good offense, that South Florida team.  This is the one team, after Rutgers, that could beat the Mountaineers.  The BetUS against the spread line is West Virginia – 7.5.  Beware South Florida!

Until next week, good luck!
