College Football Betting: South Carolina vs. LSU – BetUS Sportsbook
By Robby Maddux
There's going to be a battle in the bayou on Saturday when the No. 2 LSU Tigers host the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks in a matchup featuring two of the nation's top scoring defenses as the NCAA football betting family will be treated to a beauty.
LSU has allowed just one touchdown this year and have the top-ranked scoring defense in the country, allowing a mere 2.3 points per game. South Carolina, meanwhile, has given up an average of 9.7 points to be eighth in the nation.
The Tigers enter this matchup being a perfect 3-0 straight up and against the spread and will be looking for their first 11-game winning streak since the '71-'72 campaign.
LSU will also be going for their 16th straight win at home, where LSU is 9-1 all-time against the Gamecocks. LSU hasn't lost to South Carolina since losing 18-17 at home in 1994, and owns a dominating 14-2-1 straight up edge in the series.
LSU was strong in its latest win, romping Middle Tennessee State 44-0 last Saturday led by quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start.
Tiger's coach Les Miles rested regular starter Matt Flynn, who had sprained his right ankle a week earlier and whose participation in practice had been limited since.
LSU has used two quarterbacks this season, and depending on Flynn's progress, they'll most likely utilize both signal callers again on Saturday.
Defensively, LSU is ranked No. 1 in the nation in total defense, allowing only 128 yards per game, which is the fewest yards in school's history.
NCAA football odds display LSU as the 17-point favorites with a total of 46. The Tigers have covered the spread in each of their last 10 consecutive games dating back to 2006, which includes a money-making 41-14 bowl win over Notre Dame.
South Carolina won its sixth in a row with a 38-3 win over South Carolina State last Saturday and moved up five spots in the poll to be 3-0 straight up for the first time in six seasons – they are 1-1 against the spread.
Quarterback Blake Mitchell threw three touchdowns and completed 14-of-21 passes for 147 yards, but also threw three interceptions and had a fumble in the victory in a game that had no line.
Offensively, the Gamecocks are averaging 27.3 points per game this year. Defensively, South Carolina has allowed 306.7 yards per contest.
South Carolina is also accustom to fattening the wallets of their investors recently with an against the spread record of 9-3 in their last twelve contests dating back to last year, which includes a 44-36 bowl win over Houston.
