NCAA Football Wagering - Ohio State Buckeyes vs. LSU Tigers

The 2007-08 College Football season will come to a close tonight when the #1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and 2nd ranked LSU Tigers square off in the BCS Championship Game for all the marbles. The Louisiana Superdome has already seen the Georgia Bulldogs smash the Hawaii Warriors in the Sugar Bowl and the Florida Atlantic Owls pick up its first ever bowl win since the programs inception back in 2001.

The LSU Tigers originally opened up as 6-point favorites in this contest, but scarlet and grey money poured in and lowered it to the current bid of 3.5. The ‘Total’ opened up at 51.5, but has since been bet down to 47.5 due to many pundits expecting a defensive battle. LSU went 4-1 SU away from Baton Rouge this year, and covered just two of those five contests. On the other hand, Ohio State went a perfect 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS when playing the role of visitor.

This season saw both of these clubs lose at the perfect time. The Tigers dropped their first game of the season on the road to Kentucky in a 3 OT thriller the week after they had stormed back in the second half to overcome Florida at home by a 28-24 final count. However, they were able to jump back into the Top 5 of the BCS Poll over the next couple weeks after everyone ahead of them dropped like flies. The same scenario manifested itself in the final week of the regular season at home against Arkansas, but they were able to jump back into the #2 slot after they defeated the Tennessee Vols in the SEC Championship game coupled with the shocking loss that occurred in Morgantown when the Mountaineers lost the “Backyard Brawl” against Pitt.

As for the Buckeyes, they stormed through the regular season schedule up until November the 10th when Illinois shocked the college football world and defeated them in the “Horseshoe”. The loss saw them drop all the way back down to #6 in the country preceding their game with Michigan, but they catapulted all the way back to the top over the next two weeks. They were granted with another trip to the BCS Championship Game where they’ll look to atone for last year’s despicable effort against the Florida Gators.

The major bowl games have been pretty much hit or miss thus far, but this looks to be a dandy. So, tune your HDTV’s to FOX at 8:00 ET to see if Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes pick up their second National Championship under his watchful eye, or if Les Miles brings home the hardware in just his third year at the helm of the Tigers.
