NCAA Football Wagering: Florida (14) at Kentucky (8)
By BetUS Staff
The Kentucky Wildcats recorded a huge upset last week when they knocked off former No. 1 LSU. The Wildcats have a chance to pull off another upset for NCAAF betting fans this weekend when they take on the Florida Gators in an important SEC East matchup.
With both the Wildcats and Gators already sporting conference losses this season, neither team can afford to drop another game if they hope to even have a chance at climbing to the top of the conference.
The Gators were on a bye last week after dropping their last two games. Florida lost to Auburn 20-17 as a 17.5-point favorite three weeks ago, and followed that up with a 28-24 loss to LSU as an 8-point underdog. Against the Tigers Florida quarterback Tim Tebow basically was the Gators’ offense, as he completed 12-of-26 passes for 158 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Tebow was also a force on the ground, as he rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. The Gators’ top receiving duo of Percy Harvin and Andre Caldwell was fairly quiet in the loss, as Harvin caught four passes for 58 yards and Caldwell was limited to one catch for 10 yards.
The Wildcats also played their last game against LSU, but were more successful than the Gators and came away with a 43-37 triple-overtime win as a 10-point underdog on the NCAAF odds. Wildcats’ quarterback Andre Woodson once again led Kentucky to victory after completing 21-of-38 passes for 250 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Woodson also ran in for a touchdown in the win. Running back Derrick Locke rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, while Steve Johnson led all receivers with seven receptions for 134 yards, including the game-winning touchdown.
It’s not a stretch to say that Florida has owned this matchup over the years. Last season the Gators’ championship squad defeated Kentucky 26-7 as a 27.5-point favorite. That was the Gators 12th straight win over Kentucky, however their winning streak hasn’t been a profit boom for bettors as they were only 6-5-1 ATS in those 12 games. The Gators are a 7-point favorite in Saturday’s game.
