After losing their first game of the season against Mercer, the USC Trojans have won five in a row. One of the wins was absolutely amazing. They beat Southern Illinois 73 to 45 the other night. Southern Illinois, who was ranked 19th in the polls, had no business losing to USC by such a large margin, but, then again, these Trojans are very, very good.

Before we get into this game, I want to say to my fellow NCAAB bettors that a wager on the Trojans to win the Big Dance is a pretty good one. This is a serious basketball team, the Trojans, and they figure to get better from now until March.

The college basketball betting trends point to USC:

The Oklahoma Sooners are 15-37-2 against the spread in their last 54 road games.

The USC Trojans are 24 and 11 against the spread in their last 35 games.

The key in this game is the fact that USC is starting to understand how to play together. Or, I should say, Coach Tim Floyd for the Trojans is beginning to understand how to play his all-star cast of characters.

O.J. Mayo is simply sensational. He is every bit as good as advertised coming out of high-school. Taj Gibson, for the Trojans, might be just as good. Both guys will be NBA lottery picks after this season.

I just don’t believe that Oklahoma matches up as well against this team as some folks may think. The Sooners are 5 and 1 this year but they’ve built that record against cream-puffs like Alcorn State, Morehead State, Denver, San Francisco, and Gardner-Webb.

The Trojans are 5 and 1 but had to beat Southern Illinois and South Carolina. The game against Southern Illinois sold me on these guys. Take a look at how they played and you will never handicap this team the same way again.

Oklahoma might keep this game close in the first half but by the second half the Trojans’ talent will start coming to the forefront. With Mayo and Gibson in the line-up, the Trojans are as good as any team in college basketball.
