NCAA Football Betting: Heisman Hopefuls on the Bubble
By Tim Furious
Attention NCAA football betting fans the 2007 Heisman Trophy Race is clearly becoming a race of solid quarterbacks with only Michigan’s Michael Hart and Darren McFadden the only true other threats. The future, however, is never written in stone and though the current top-5 are making strong cases, there remains a few select players that could make a run. One in particular may surprise you. Head to our BetUS.com college football futures to keep an eye on all the action as you lay down some fun, long-term bets.
IN THE MIX
Graham Harrell (QB) – Texas Tech Raiders
Despite the system, you can not ignore his numbers. With 3,151 yards and 31 touchdowns, Harrell leads the league in both categories. On top of that he is second overall in quarterback rating (178.3) and Tech is 6-1, while going 4-2 ATS. Harrell is the definition of a long shot in terms of betting.
Next game: Texas Tech vs. Missouri (-3)
Glenn Dorsey (DL) – LSU Tigers
The Tigers just had to do this. The week I wanted to give Dorsey the “best player on the best team” consideration, they go ahead and lose. What a prick. Still, Dorsey is the most affective defender in the nation. He has 34 tackles this year, including four sacks. Defensive players never get plane tickets to New York (when it comes to Heisman races), but Dorsey deserves the attention, especially if they clobber Auburn this weekend.
Next game: Auburn vs. LSU (-10.5)
Dennis Dixon (QB) – Oregon Ducks
Dixon continues to put together solid outings as he clamors for some Heisman respect. With 287 yards and three touchdowns against Washington State, the versatile threat has added to his already solid numbers. Oregon has a chance to break through if they stay steady. He has 21 touchdowns on the season.
Next game: Oregon (-11) vs. Washington
IN THE MUCK
Colt Brennan (QB) – Hawaii Warriors
People stopped caring about Brennan the second that Tebow, Woodson, Harrell and Ryan started having epic seasons. He may be an NFL worthy quarterback, but the Warriors are not generating enough interest to garner Brennan any Heisman love.
Next game: BYE WEEK
Michael Crabtree (WR) – Texas Tech Raiders
Don’t look now, but Crabtree leads the league in scoring (102 points) and receiving yards (1,244). In fact, no other receiver has even busted the 900-yard-mark in the nation and Crabtree is up in the scoring race by almost twenty points. Not to dampen his spirits, but freshman hardly get Heisman votes and receivers never take home the trophy.
Next game: Texas Tech vs. Missouri (-3)
Chase Daniel (QB) – Missouri Tigers
The Tigers may have lost a game, but Daniel is having a good season. On top of that, his Tigers are 5-0 ATS, which should grab the attention of the betting community even if Daniel’s Heisman hopes have been dashed.
Next game: Texas Tech vs. Missouri (-3)
