Champions League Betting - Inter Milan vs. Liverpool

After delaying the match by a week, Liverpool is finally heading over to San Siro, where Seria A Inter Milan will have to fend against Champions league elimination. The Liverpool Reds head to Italy with a comfortable 2-0 lead and a good chance to reach the Champions League quarterfinals (tipped at -350 future odds with BetUS).

Future Odds:

Liverpool to Qualify for Quarterfinals -350

Inter Milan to Qualify for Quarterfinals +250

In the first leg, both teams looked to go goalless until the last five minutes, when Dirk Kuyt scored the first goal of the match, and Steven Gerrard added a second goal for good measure, thereby improving their side’s chances for the second leg away match.

Since their victory in Anfield, the Reds have posted impressive performances in Premiership matches, scoring in abundance, particularly from an in-form Fernando Torres. After their Champions League home win, they defeated Middlesbrough 3:2 and then nicked a 3:1 win at Bolton. West Ham United received a 4:0 beating and Newcastle United was not spared either when they were pounded 3:0 by the Reds on Saturday. Torres produced seven goals in these four matches, two of which were hat tricks against West Ham and Boro. Disadvantaged on the money line at +300, the odds are too good to ignore.

Inter Milan are favoured on the money line at -115 at BetUS, but they are in danger of following Seria A rivals AC Milan – defeated by an English side – and joining the humbled parade of squads dumped from the Champions League in the knockout rounds.

Inter Milan were rocked at Anfield and since then they have gone 1-3 – winning just one of their four matches. History holds some promise for the Italians as they have lost only once to an English side at home: a 5:1 beating by Arsenal in the 2003/04 Champions League campaign.

Betting Verdict: Indeed Liverpool arrives with the advantage in the second leg, making their underdog odds at +300 on the money line too good to be true. The Reds are enjoying success in Europe’s premier competition, as well as domestically, and with confidence at a high, they are a good bet for the win in San Siro, and for qualifying for the Quarterfinals.

The pressure will be on Inter Milan to take the initiative, but going on the attack could leave them open to a counter attack and as Liverpool seems to be scoring goals almost for fun, Inter Milan could be in for some more misery before a partisan crowd.

Playing the draw is an option, as the Reds do not need to win this match outright to advance. However, Benitez’s side might like to go for the insurance a goal or two would give them. Both Torres and Gerrard have been in a goal-scoring frame of mind that I think they will try to find the back of the net in San Siro more than once.
