Canadian Football League bettors will get one last chance to get down in Week 3’s action when the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-0, 2-0 ATS) invade Ivor Wynne Stadium to take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-1, 1-1 ATS) on Saturday afternoon. The defending Grey Cup champion Riders have come out of the gates with guns ablazed after churning out impressive wins over Western Division rivals BC and Edmonton. This marks the first time in almost four years that Hamilton can look at the standings and see that they are not in last place in the Eastern Division.

In Week 2 action, the Roughriders earned a hard fought 26-16 victory in BC Place, easily covering the spread as 6-point underdogs, but failing to reach the 51.5 point ‘total’ for their CFL bettors. The victory came at a steep price, though. QB Marcus Crandell will miss at least three weeks with a hamstring injury while both SB DJ Flick and DB Leron Mitchell could miss the remainder of the season with leg injuries. Former North Carolina QB Darian Durant will make his first professional start this week for the Riders. He’ll need a monumental effort from his defence to continue Saskatchewan’s winning ways in the weeks to come. The unit has only surrendered 29 points thus far on the season, easily tops in the CFL.

After a very disappointing Week 1 loss to Montreal, the general feeling in Hamilton was that famous, “Here we go again.” HC Charlie Taaffe lit a fuse under his roster before their Week 2 trip to Toronto, and the team responded by pulling off a shocking 32-13 win in the Rogers Centre. CFL bettors had to be thrilled with the effort of the 10-point underdog Ti-Cats, especially if they invested in the +400 moneyline offered on Hamilton. It was the first road win for the black and gold since the 2006 season. Hamilton leads the CFL in rushing by a country mile, racking up a whopping 462 rushing yards in the first two weeks of the season. RB Jesse Lumsden is an early candidate for the Most Outstanding Player award, leading the CFL with 225 rushing yards.

The CFL betting trends make this game seem like a runaway for the defending champs. In their L/10 meetings, the Riders are 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS. Last season, Saskatchewan covered both match-ups between the teams, beating Hamilton by a combined 78-34. The Riders have averaged 36.1 PPG in their L/10 against the Ti-Cats. They haven’t lost in Ivor Wynne since 2003. The CFL betting public has had a tremendous amount of luck wagering on Saskatchewan of late as well. The Riders are 5-0 ATS their L/5 road games, and are 6-2 ATS in Hamilton the L/8 seasons. Hamilton is 5-12 ATS in their L/17 home games, and 4-13 SU during that stretch.

Despite all the trends, Offshore Sportsbooks tagged the hosts as lofty 2-point home favorites in this intra-conference showdown. The ‘total’ in this game opened at 46, but has since been bet down to 43.5. The line movement doesn’t agree with the betting trends though, as these teams have gone over the ‘total’ in 8 of their L/9 in Hamilton and in 14 of the L/19 overall meetings.
