Bet On UFC - UFC 83 Preview
By Robby Maddux
The next chance to get down on the UFC betting action in the Octagon comes on Saturday, April 19 when the top cage fighting series invades Canada for the first time ever.
One year ago, Matt "The Terror" Serra shocked the world by upsetting Georges "Rush" St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
Now, after beating up Matt Hughes in December, St-Pierre enters the cage as the Interim Welterweight Champion to take on the man who took his title. This time, St-Pierre will be in his home province of Quebec.
St-Pierre will try to become undisputed king of the 170-pound weight class with athleticism and a very well rounded game. He brings a 15-2-0 MMA record to the cage with a ton of determination to beat Serra, who's 16-4-0 thanks to a great ground game with superb submissions.
St-Pierre is coming off back-to-back impressive wins over top contenders Hughes and Josh Koscheck to regain recognition among UFC wagering fans as instant money in the welterweight division.
Serra is an extremely heavy-handed fighter, returning to the cage following more than a year of being on the sidelines due to injury. He is also coming off back-to-back wins.
In the first meeting, Serra won by way of technical knock out at 3:25 in round one. It was by far the biggest upset of 2007. Can Serra shock the world once again? Oddsmakers don't think so, as Serra is listed the robust underdog in the BetUS UFC odds at +350 while tagging St-Pierre the heavy chalk at -500.
Also on the card, Travis "The Serial Killer" Lutter (+300) will tangle with Rich ''Ace'' Franklin (-400).
Lutter has lost three of his last four fights. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu warrior will be looking to improve on his 12-4-0 MMA record against Franklin, who's dropped two of his last four bouts.
Franklin has faced some of the best fighters in the business such as Anderson Silva (twice), Yushin Okami, Evan Tanner, Nate Quarry and legendary Ken Shamrock. Franklin is a good conditioned fighter with excellent striking skills and is well-rounded. He owns an impressive MMA record of 24-3-0.
Nate "Rock" Quarry (-350) will be in action as well versus Kalib Starnes (+250). Mark Bocek (-500) will take on Mac Danzig (+350) and Charles "Chainsaw" McCarthy (+250) will attempt to cut down Michael "The Count" Bisping (-350), making for a stellar night of bone-crushing action if you wager on UFC action. Are you ready? Let's get it on!
