Super Bowl Wagering – Super Bowl Odds a Little Off

If you are going to bet on the Super Bowl, you probably already know that the oddsmakers overshot their mark when the line first came out. By favoring the Patriots by a full two touchdowns immediately after the Conference Championship games were finished, books opened themselves up to a ton of New York money, and it came flowing in fast and furious. The Super Bowl odds went down quickly, trying to attract the massive fan base that has been betting on New England all season long.

New York Giants +11.5 vs. New England Patriots –11.5

It is a rare thing when NFL betting lines move by almost a field goal, but that is exactly what has happened as the sportsbook tries to make up for the huge offside money they found themselves in before they were able to begin correcting their error. Of course, if the Patriots come out and show the world why they are undefeated and why they are considered one of, if not the, best teams ever and beat the Giants down, the books will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Now the line sits favoring New England still, but now by just 11.5 points. Still, considering these two teams played in the final week of the regular season in a battle of a game that came down to the very end and required a major Tom Brady led-comeback in the fourth quarter to seal the perfect regular season, many are still taking the Giants to cover this lofty number.

Super Bowl Betting: 6:20 p.m. EST in Glendale, Arizona

Considering the fact that so many people are still jumping on the New York Giants bandwagon, especially after their performances in these playoffs, it would not be at all surprising to see this line creep even smaller as the hype week wears on and the game gets closer. There are two ways to think about this season’s Super Bowl XLII lines if you are a bettor and the time is now to decide which way your bankroll is leaning.

If you like New England to cover this spread, you should wait a while longer before placing your bet. Right now, they have to win by 12 or more points for you to win your bet. In a week’s time, chances are very, very good that you will be able to get them when they only have to win by eleven points, or even ten.

On the other hand, if you are like much of the football betting world and believe that New York will easily cover this large spread, you should be betting right now. In fact, you should have already been placing bets while the line was higher, but if you missed that opportunity, do not miss this one. Right now, even if the G-men lose by eleven, you are golden. In 48 hours, that may not be the case.
