First Round Tennis Picks
Tennis Betting Line: Andy Murray -450 Evgeny Korolev +275
Match Time: 03:00 AM EST
Tennis Prediction: From May to August, owing to a wrist injury, Andy Murray was absent from tournament activity. Returning in the summer Murray visibly struggled, failing to advance deep into tournaments as he crashed out in the early rounds. Last week in Metz, France, Andy Murray enjoyed his first good run in a tournament, finishing as the runner-up (lost to Tommy Robredo 6-0 2-6 3-6). But having let a first set lead slip through his fingers, Murray may not be inclined to view his run so favorably. This leads to the question whether his Kremlin Cup campaign, which kicks off on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, will be affected by his loss in France.
Under any other circumstance, Murray would be a sure bet as the -450 favorite. Determining Murray’s mental state following his loss in France is no mean task. Wagering his confidence suffered slightly, take the odds makers bait and bet on Korolev. Further adding value to Korolev’s +275 odds is the fact that he is a Moscow native and with plenty of support from the crowd, Korolev could provoke an upset.
Tennis Free Pick: Korolev in straight sets.
Tennis Betting Line: Igor Andreev -200 Nicolas Mahut +150
Match Time: 03:00 AM EST
Tennis Prediction: It’s déjà vu for Frenchman Mahut in Moscow as he prepares to face Russia’s Igor Andreev for the second time in two weeks. Lucky for Mahut, he notched the victory against Andreev, albeit a close one, on home turf at last weeks’ Open de Moselle tournament in Metz, France. (Mahut d. Andreev in three close sets 3-6 7-5 7-6(1).)
In this, their second career meeting, Mahut’s 1-0 lead in head-to-head records lends value to his +150 underdog odds. But victory notwithstanding, repeating a victory in Moscow, will not be easy for Mahut. This time around, Andreev holds home court advantage, making his favorite odds at -200 a good play.
Tennis Free Pick: Andreev in straight sets.
Tennis Betting Line: Mikhail Youzhny -240 Ernest Gulbis +180
Match Time: 03:00 AM EST
Tennis Prediction: This should be an easy match up for the second seeded Russian, Mikhail Youzhny. At – 240 he is by far the better bet. However, teenager Ernest Gulbis arrives in Moscow after winning the Challenger event in Mons, Belgium. With his hard court game all warmed-up, he could surprise Youzhny who appears in his first hard court tournament since the 2007 US Open.
Tennis Free Pick: Youzhny to persevere in three sets.
