Tennis Betting – Open 13 Quarterfinal Tennis Picks
By Nila Amerova
Marseille France – In the top half of the draw, fourth seed Andy Murray replicated his Doha final victory over Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round to advance into the quarterfinal at the Open 13 – his second quarterfinal run of the season. Next up for Murray is Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. BetUS brings you tennis odds on all the major and non-major tournaments on the ATP calendar; bet on the Open 13 with BetUS Sportsbook.
Tennis Betting Line: Andrew Murray -400 Nicolas Mahut +250
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Friday, February 15, 2008
Tennis Prediction: No.11 Andy Murray of Britain reached his second quarterfinal of 2008, after battling back from a set down to clinch a 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 victory over Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland. Murray improves to 7/1 for the season, which includes one ATP title (Doha).
After a disappointing run at the Australian Open that saw Murray crash in his opening match, Murray appears to have moved on and regrouped, showing no signs of a wavering confidence. Murray launched a determined campaign at the Open 13, beginning with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jesse Huta Galung in the first round and forced a comeback win over Wawrinka in the second round, averting a nigh-upset on a day that was filled with significant upsets in Marseille.
Murray enters this matchup as the odds makers’ favorite at -400 odds and aside from his impressive showing in Marseille thus far, recommending his odds is a 1-0 head-to-head record over Mahut as well as his overall higher ranking. No.44 Nicolas Mahut holds the home court edge, but playing in front of a partisan crowd does not give his +250 underdog enough weight to recommend wagering on him. He would be a long shot bet against Murray.
Tennis Free Picks: Murray in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Gilles Simon vs. Paul-Henri Mathieu
Match Time: 06:00 AM Eastern Time, Friday, February 15, 2008
Tennis Prediction: To the delight of the partisan crowd, defending champion Gilles Simon orchestrated the biggest upset of the tournament, by ending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic’s run in Marseille. In a match that took two hours and seven minutes, the 23-year-old Frenchman recorded a 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3. Next up for Simon is fellow compatriot Paul-Henri Mathieu.
Home court edge cancelled out between No. 30 Simon and No, 21 Mathieu, the slight advantage lies in Mathieu’s corner with a 2-0 lead in head-to-heads. Mathieu defeated Simons in 2007 twice – at Roland Garros (clay) and New Haven (hard). Overall, this matchup should play out close, with both offering value on the money line, but I like Mathieu’s odds to advance into the semifinal.
Tennis Free Picks: Mathieu in three sets.
