Tennis Betting – Open 13 Odds and Free Tennis Picks

Marseille, France – On the close of Day 1 at the Open 13, Andy Murray, seeded fourth, returned to competitive action after crashing out of the Australian Open in the first round to eventual finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray, who won the title in Doha (his fourth career ATP singles title) earlier this year opened his campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Dutch qualifier Jesse Huta Galung. Also through to the second round were fifth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero, and sixth seed and last year’s runner up Marcos Baghdatis. BetUS sportsbook is taking action on the Open 13, so with more first round action still to play out on Wednesday February 13, 2008, here are some free tennis picks to get you started betting on tennis.

Tennis Betting Line: David Guez +425 Gilles Simon -800

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday February 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Gilles Simon of France takes on a relative unknown Frenchman, David Guez in this all-French affair in the first round. Simon, who is the defending champion in Marseille, enters this match up as the outright favorite at -800. On paper, Simon is the better play, particular as very little is known about Guez, a player who ranks well beyond the Top 100 (No.173) and enters the Open 13 on a wild card.

Obscurity notwithstanding, Guez could prove to be an unexpected surprise. In 2008, Guez reached the semifinals of Noumea and Guangzhou (Challenger events) and won China F2 (Future event). If an upset occurred in the first round, it would not be the first time a defending champion fell to a relative unknown player. At +425, Guez holds value.

Tennis Free Picks: Guez in three sets

Tennis Betting Line: Michael Llodra -140 Andreas Seppi EV

Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Wednesday February 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: No.60 Michael Llodra of France arrives in Marseille with an 8/2 winning record, which includes one ATP title (won in Adelaide). Llodra holds a 1-0 record over No. 40 Andreas Seppi of Italy, owing to a victory at the 2004 US Open. On paper, Llodra at -140 would be the better play. However, despite holding the home court advantage, Llodra has crashed out of the first round of this tournament in his two appearances (2005 and 2007). Will he advance for the first time in Marseille tomorrow?

Andreas Seppi enters this tournament with a losing 2/3 record in ATP level events, but with a double title sweep (singles and doubles with partner Bolelli) in Bergamo—a Challenger event. At even odds, Seppi is a good bet to continue his winning streak in Marseille.

Tennis Free Picks: Seppi in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Feliciano Lopez +150 Ivo Karlovic -200

Match Time: 5AM Eastern Time, Wednesday February 13, 2008

Tennis Prediction: Tied at 3 in head-to-heads, the first round encounter between No. 37 Feliciano Lopez and No.23 Ivo Karlovic will be a tough contest. Further strengthening this fact is that in their six meetings, they played a combined total of 15 sets, 9 of which were settled in the tie-break, and those that did not go to the tie-break, the highest differential was 3 games. Indeed, these two play a tight game against each other lending both of them value on the line. Karlovic is favoured in this match up, but I think Lopez has the game to upset the 6’10” giant and improve to 4-3 lifetime.

Tennis Free Picks: Lopez in three sets
