Tennis Betting – Open 13 Second Round Free Tennis Picks
By Nila Amerova
Marseille, France – At the close of first round action at the Open 13 the partisan crowd in Marseille had much to cheer about with six Frenchman advancing into the second round, but to their utter disappointment, Australian Open finalist and newly appointed French tennis hero, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s campaign came to an abrupt end when he fell in straight sets -5, 7-6(3) to former Top 10 tennis star Mario Ancic. Second seed Gasquet, defending champion Gilles Simon and eighth seed Paul-Henri Mathieu were amongst the six Frenchman whose campaign will live another day in Marseille. With second round action set to kick off on Thursday, February 14, 2008, bet on who will advance into the final eight at the Open 13 with BetUS tennis odds.
Tennis Betting Line: Andy Murray -275 Stanislas Wawrinka +190
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday, February 14, 2008
Tennis Free Picks: No.11 Andy Murray of Britain had a good start to the year, winning the title in Doha, but wobbled at the Australian Open against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his opening match. In his first tournament since his abrupt exit down under, Murray got off to a flying start with a victory over Dutch qualifier Jesse Huta Galung. Next up for Murray is a much bigger task, overpowering Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, a player who holds a close 2-1 lead in head-to-heads over the Brit.
Murray arrived with a 5/1 record to Marseille and improved to 6/1 following his first round victory. Wawrinka brought a 6/3 record, which is now at 7/3 following his opening match.
At -275, Murray is the odds makers’ favorite in this matchup, and recommending his odds is the fact that Murray defeated Wawrinka 6-4 4-6 6-2 in the Doha final to clinch the title. Having notched his first win over the Swiss tennis player under the pressure of a final match, Murray is a good bet to record his second victory and improve to 2-2 against Wawrinka.
On the other hand, Wawrinka may be inclined to avenge his inopportune loss in Doha to Murray, and the slighter pressure of a second round meeting may be just the occasion for avenging that loss. At +190, Wawrinka holds value. The ill-timed loss in Doha could serve Wawrinka well, as the recent experience should provide insight into changing up his game plan against the talented Brit.
Tennis Free Picks: Wawrinka in three sets.
Tennis Betting Line: Mario Ancic vs. Teimuraz Gabashvili
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday, February 14, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Former Top 10 player Mario Ancic delivered the first upset of the tournament, when he ousted Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a tough opening match, but the Croatian lived up to his former billing, when in one hour and 45 minutes on Centre Court he delivered the coup de grace in the second set tie-break. Next up for the Croatian, who is launching a comeback trail, is Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili. Although this is their first-ever career meeting, Ancic should come away with the relative easy victory.
Tennis Free Picks: Ancic in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Novak Djokovic vs. Gilles Simon
Match Time: 05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday, February 14, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Recently installed amongst the Grand Slam titleholder’s elite, Djokovic should end Frenchman Gilles Simon title defence campaign relatively easily in the second round. Although the crowd will be heavily one-sided, but so will the odds. Take the odds makers’ heavy favorite in this matchup without a second thought.
Tennis Free Picks: Djokovic in straight sets
